I like to listen to Rosalyn Landor so this book was a pleasing listen. The reason I would not give this book more than 3 stars is because of the characters themselves. I could not enjoy or relate to them.

Most people avoid the dreaded Whitechapel district. For Honoria Todd, it's the last safe haven. But at what price? Blade is known as the master of the rookeries - no one dares cross him. It's been said he faced down the Echelon's army single-handedly, that ever since being infected by the blood craving he's been quicker, stronger, almost immortal. When Honoria shows up at his door, his tenuous control comes close to snapping. She's so...innocent. He doesn't see her backbone of steel - or that she could be the very salvation he's been seeking.

I found myself loving and hating this book with equal parts. The story line of a sadistic assassin and a naïve young maiden was generic in description but my, my, my did this story have more emotion and depth than I could image.

Spoiler**- I loved this book because of the emotion and heart pounding feeling it caused in me but my level of disgust was greater than my enjoyment. I just can't understand why this sheltered girl would ever imaging doing the sick things she did. Why did they have to hurt each other to love each other? I can understand why she felt the need to dominate this perverse man in the name of self preservation but why could they never just love without pain? It sickened me but I had to contemplate that his past and pain was so great that he could offer only this part of himself. Too damaged to ever be "normal". He was molested mentally and physically and I had to accept and understand that he was hurting and this was how his broken spirit mended itself no matter how distasteful it was to my prudish feeling on the topic.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I couldn't wait to hear the narration of the Hero. Matthew did a great deep smokey voice that I just loved. Stoy story was drawn out and I hate to zone out on the overly detailed bits.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The plot. The entire book was about planning to get back a goblet. No really that was it! Just planning to get a goblet.

What about Matthew Brenher’s performance did you like?

His hero voice made my kness weak. Loved it.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

The author is very detailed in her descriptions no matter if it is a love scence or a conversation. She can go on to a point where you lose interest quick.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. The narrator was so terrible and painful to listen too I couldn't even enjoy the book enough the know what is was about.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The meeting of the H/H and how their story ties them together was a very interesting plot I wanted to entertain myself with listening to. But the naraator was so awful that I had to turn the book off.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

worst narrator I have ever heard. I wish she will never record anything ever again!!!! not only were her accents inconsistance she had terrible expression for emotions and you could hear her breathing in a mic while she read. Most annoying. She did not properly expression emotion or tones and my god those accents made my teeth itch!

Was The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie worth the listening time?

I'm sure the book may have been good but I will have to buy it in ebook form to find out since the narrator was so horrific.

    Any additional comments?

With this, the first in a dazzling new quartet of novels, best-selling author Mary Balogh invites us into a special world, a select academy for young ladies, a world of innocence and temptation. Drawing us into the lives of four women, teachers at Miss Martin's School for Girls, Balogh introduces this novel's marvelous heroine: music teacher Frances Allard...and the man who seduces her with a passion no woman could possibly forget.

I was very impressed with the beginning of this book but as soon as the main characters part ways it becomes very boring and repetative. Keep in the mind that the excitement only last for the first chapter or so. The heroine harps on her same denials so much that I want to scream.
