  • Very Good Jeeves, Volume 2

The second instalment of this wonderful collection of short stories sees Bertie Wooster in the proverbial soup as usual and Jeeves invariably shimmering to the rescue. Love, comic reunions and errant Uncles are all on the agenda, plus bucket loads of laughter. Where would Wooster be without his infinitely brainy valet? Where would audio listeners be without Wodehouse's sparkling comic invention?

What a winning combination: the hilarious antics of Bertie Wooster and his "gentleman's gentleman," Jeeves, delightfully narrated by Martin Jarvis, who was born to the task.

  • The Importance of Being Earnest: Free Performance

    • UNABRIDGED (1 hr and 58 mins)
    • By Oscar Wilde
    • Narrated By James Marsters, Charles Busch, Emily Bergl, and others
    Overall

    Story
    (1118)

This final play from the pen of Oscar Wilde is a stylish send-up of Victorian courtship and manners, complete with assumed names, mistaken lovers, and a lost handbag. Jack and Algernon are best friends, both wooing ladies who think their names are Ernest, "that name which inspires absolute confidence." Wilde's effervescent wit, scathing social satire, and high farce make this one of the most cherished plays in the English language.

    Susan says: "So much fun!"

The players were superb! The pace and timing were right on target in this faithful rendering of what many say is Wilde's best .Because the dialogue moves along so quickly, however, I would recommend one see "Earnest" first to get a sense of the story line and the characters.

  • The James Thurber Audio Collection: Fables and Selected Stories by James Thurber

"My father was in the hospital and every night when I visited him, I read aloud to him. James Thurber. And one night he said, 'You really should do that on your show,' and I said, 'Dad, it’s a television newscast. I’d love to, but how could it possibly fit?' And he said, 'How often have I ever suggested anything for your shows?' And I remembered that he never had. But I also reminded him that there were things like copyrights and bills, to which he said, 'Try it. You never know.'"

Kristi Richardson says: "James Thurber and Keith Olbermann? Wonderful!!!"
"Olbermann a lttle over the top"

Thrurber's oddities are thoroughly enjoyable, but may have been even more so if most had been presented by a less frenetic narrator. Olbermann did, however, have his moments, and the way he came to this was very touching...

Last summer, The New Yorker published chef Anthony Bourdain's shocking, "Don't Eat Before Reading This." Now, the author uses the same "take-no-prisoners" attitude in his deliciously funny and shockingly delectable audiobook, sure to delight gourmands and philistines alike.

Go, Tony! Chef Bourdain takes you through the innards of the restaurant business like no other! I was also amazed at his humility, so poignantly hightlighted throughout this very entertaining and enlightening field trip through the world of "cookies." I will listen to this one again and again!
