If she wasn't speed reading, gasping for breath and swallowing into the microphone, she was breathy and trying to make a sexy voice for the other female character. And the male characters?? Don't get me started. It was like a bad comic impression. It really ruined the book for me. Well, that and the cheesy one-liners.
This really did seem like a dream. I didn't want it to end. I imagined myself in all of the tents and how much fun it would be to walk through the clouds or be in the star-gazer. Great imagery.
This book was fairly predictable in what the ending would be. I did enjoy the character voices though, and the story was fun. I didn't get, from the description, the year in which the story was set, so the setting was a surprise to me. I enjoyed it and look forward to other listens from this series.
Definitely not a serious listen, but given the title, if that's what you were expecting I'm not sure why you'd choose this book. It was a nice listen with some good sexy parts too. I didn't find it as laugh out loud funny as some other listeners suggested they had done. And I haven't been itching to check out another by this author, though I wouldn't automatically say no.
I love this author, I can't wait for another in this series. The narrator is great, the story is amazingly complicated with family drama, murder, divorce, sibling rivalry, custody battle, secrets kept for 20 plus years. It's a great listen.
Totally worth it. You'll laugh and cry and be frustrated with the characters and their decisions. You'll love them and hate them all at the same time. The narrator is great! Definitely a favorite. I almost never post reviews, so this one definitely made an impression.
