"Not at all what I thought it would be."
Yes, the way it is written. This book is written in short snip-its of unrelated topics. It could be a books of tweets! Not very interesting because there is no story here, just a family's daily encounters as they live in Paris.
The author narrates the book and she does so with a see-saw rythm and it is a little annoying.
"Dark Hilarity"
This book is a dark comedy and it is hilarious. I am so glad I chose to listen to this book rather than read it, because I'm not sure I could have made it as funny as the narrator did. The narration is probably the best I have heard; it really MADE the book. The story is odd and quirky and I loved it. The language is a little rough, so if you are easily offended, you might not like it as much, I was fine with the language, seemed realistic and made it funnier for me.
"A really good read."
This book has been one of my favorite audiobooks so far. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 for story is the ending was somewhat dissapointing. The entire book is riveting and keeps you guessing. The book takes a turn about two-thirds through, but then starts to unravel a bit. I still highly recommend, I just would have ended it differently.
"Intriguing take on a difficult topic."
Yes. The characters were very well developed and not run of the mill.
Hildy, for sure! She would clearly be the life the of the party. She is has a lot of depth to her character and is someone who could carry herself in just about any conversation. She is obviously never at a loss for words.
