"So that's what got us in this mess!"
I normally pick books on guys like"Mitch Rapp" kicking butt and saving this nation, but I thought I should use a credit to educate myself. I have no idea how the big Wall Street firm's work, hedge funds, bond trading etc, and after listening to this book, I still don't. With that said, I was locked into this book. Michael Lewis did a great job of taking a subject that is designed to confuse the living daylights out of 99% of people and making you understand what occurred to get us into this mess. He established, three sets of modern day heroes who were screaming at the Wall Street Machine that what they were doing was wrong. When they wouldn't listen, they bet against them. I am floored at the level of deception and greed of so many different components to allow this to happen. How does Moody's and S&P do what they did and when confronted, not have the backbone to correct it? Why did they not have any repercussions and why didn't someone go to jail? How does the smartest people on Wall Street with Ivy league degree's allow this to occur and run their firms into the ground? Nice job guys. Do you think we really want to do business with any of you clowns after this? How does our Government and Alan Greenspan not recognize this and act? How does our Government bail out these inept Wall Street Firms and allow them to use that money and pay big executive bonuses?
I like to believe I am a Capitalist and believe in free enterprise with less Government. However, we read stories like this and it makes you wonder if their is something better. I have never placed a great deal of trust in banks and traders and after this book, I certainly have much less faith in them. They have truly earned the name "Banksters" and maybe we should have sent in "Mitch Rapp" to clean up the entire mess. That would be a good story!!!
"Absolute Classic - Must Read"
What an amazing book. The book will bring tears to your eyes in the first section of simply setting up the story. It gives us as bit of kindness from a nasty war in which both sides sacrificed so much. This is a story of good men asked to defend their Country and they choose to do it with honor and dignity. This story happens early in the war and after you hear what both parties lived through and experienced, it is a miracle in itself that both parties lived to tell their stories. War is Hell and this amazing story came from its deepest destruction. Hats off to Adam Makos for giving us their story. For all our veterans and our active military and families, I can only tell you Thank You for your service to this Nation. I am forever grateful.
"Why the hype?"
Lets all be honest with ourselves. We got this book for the sex. We wanted to see what the hype was all about. After finally getting through it, we can have better stories reading a forum. The "sex tales" weren't all that hot and the story stinks. However, the absolute worst part of this audible tale is listening to them READ EMAILS. It never seemed to end. One email after another. Why does anyone think that makes a good story? Every email is read with the date, time, subject, sender, ending. Over and over and over to the point I was screaming at them to stop reading the emails!!!
"Another Great Book"
Mitch Rapp is like Led Zeppelin. Hard, fast and you never grow tired of them. He is the baddest man on the planet and no other writer has come close to capturing a like character like him. DO NOT END THIS FRANCHISE!!!
"Great Characters"
I love this book. I love the lawyers Grisham created and I was really pulling for this collection of characters. I have read most of Grisham's books and this has to be one of my all time favorites. After reading The Confession, it was nice to follow a book that was not so heavy in content. It was as if the Keystone Cops became litigators. Good job Mr. Grisham!
"Take that conspiracy believers!!"
If you are one of the many countless number of people that believe in conspiracy theories, you need to get this book. Mr. Bugliosi put his "lawyer skills" to the murder of JFK and debunks all the nut job theories that have not allow JFK to rest in peace. He takes on every conspiracy angle and gives concrete proof as to why they don't hold water. Afterwords you will wonder why anyone was ever suckered in to such nonsense. What I enjoyed most about the book was his minute by minute description of what took place before, during and after the assassination. What I didn't like about the book was the long explanations of the many conspiracy angles and why they didn't fit. I was also hoping Mr.Bugliosi would have taken more time to discredit Oliver Stone and his silly movie. It was almost like he ran out of steam by the time he addressed Mr. Stone. I would have lead with Oliver Stone as that single movie has done more to create this madness than anything else.
"Flynn's best Mitch Rapp Book"
This has been my favorite Rapp book to date. Mitch Rapp kicks a-- from beginning to end. When he is not taking out the bad guys, he is putting the spineless politicians in their place. I love Mitch Rapp and if Flynn ever takes him out, I am done. These books give me the escape I need from the political divide that exist in our country today. Hats off to Mr Guidall as he does a great job with the narration.
"Mitch Rapp - What America Needs"
Our Country has lost its moral blueprint and is full of PC nonsense. The right and left seem to be further apart today then ever before and no one wants to take a stand on putting an end to it. Muslims flew planes into building and killed thousands of Americans and today we actually have a large segment of society that will allow them to build a mosque there and accuse all that appose as being racist. What in the World has happened to us? In reality we may not be able to do anything about our direction but Mitch Rapp can! He doesn't take crap from anyone and I love reading about his "Cowboy Ways"! This book is terrific. Please keep him going.
"Great, Great, Great!!!"
Rick Reilly, you are The Man. Reilly's columns are the reason I ever purchased SI. Some columns will make you laugh, some will make you cry and others will make you think about things. What a great idea to package some of his best into this collection. Give this one a listen, you won't be disappointed!!!
"Hard to Follow and Very Slow"
If you like learning history by reading historical documents and letters, than this book is for you. If you are looking to learn a part of history in an entertaining and captivating manner, stay away from this one. It is one long book about all the people involved in making the World's Fair and one long story about a serial killer. This could easily have been two different books. They don't intersect. There are also so many people involved in the book that it is difficult to keep up with. It is a good history lesson, but provides no entertainment value.
