When CIA "fixer" Micah Dalton's friend and mentor turns up dead, he's put on a collision course with a killer who has a penchant for intricate knife-work and Native American mysticism, a sadist who is killing ex-CIA agents. The victims are hard-nosed field men whose only link to one another seems to be a global surveillance operation called Echelon. The murders appear to be acts of retribution. But for what?

i have no idea how this book can be rated so high. i actually forced myself to finish it just to see how bad it would end. it's part horror story, thriller, & spy novel - yet misses on all fronts. time doesnt add up, the main character is truly dumb and unbelievable, and the native american bent is silly. a truly horrible listen. AVOID

If you had to kill three people to save your best friend's life, would you do it? When John Rain decides to get out of the business, his hand is forced by rogue CIA operative Jim Hilger. Hilger kidnaps Dox, Rain's trusted partner and closest friend, and offers Rain a choice: carry out a final assignment, or bear the responsibility for Dox's murder.

    "bad, real bad"
    Overall

this book suffers from a fatal flaw: it is near impossible to care about a single character. most of the emotion is trite and what you might expect of the insight of a 15 year old male. the book languishes and never generates a shred of suspense. it's one of those books that spell everything out ahead, then actually does it just the way it said. BORING.
