I enjoyed the book itself but wanted to strangle the narrator at times. The narrator has a tendency to drag the words out to such a degree that it really slowed down the pace of the book. I expected it to be slow paced anyway but the narrator really dragged it down. At one point I was so frustrated with this tendency that I almost switched to another book, but being a compulsive completer has its benefits. I am glad I stuck with it but will seriously hesitate before I buy another book with her as the narrator. It drove me crazy, well crazier at least!
As someone who has been around dogs all my life, I could relate to everything in this book. I too have trained dogs to hand signals and commands. Some were easy to train, some were more of a challenge. I agree with the methods used in this book as the only humane way to train. I guess what I am trying to say is the author really hit the mark on how to train a dog. Either her research was very thorough or she has trained a dog herself. While the dog training part of the book is not what the book is truly about, I found myself laughing out loud in public places while listening to this book. Yes I got some strange looks. I found the story totally engrossing and could not put it down. I am so glad I bought it. I will listen to it again in the future without a doubt! Anyone who has ever had a dog will be able to identify with parts of this book. Even if you have never had a dog or are not an animal lover, I still recommend it. The animal parts add charm and character. All in all an excellent read!
I really enjoyed this book. I love long books though. If you are looking for a quick read, look elsewhere. My only negative is I felt the ending was rushed somewhat. Another reviewer said if you enjoyed Needful Things you would enjoy this book. I agree. Also The Stand. Any of his books that are long and follow multiple characters basically. I am glad I purchased it!
It had been awhile since I finished reading the previous book in the series and wondered if I would remember it enough to enjoy this book. Did I ever. The characters came back to life and I found myself immersed in another GREAT book! I love Davina Porter's narration. Enough history is added to the book to make me want to actually visit sites mentioned in the books! Another feather in Diana Gabaldon's cap!
