"A Powerful Rendering of Lincoln's Life"
I could not put this book down. It is well written and narrated. I have listened or read books on Lincoln but this is by far one of the best I have listened to. I highly recommend it.
"Shows O'Reilly's Hypocrisy"
After listening to this book, and having been a long-time listener to O'Reilly, it has been confirmed to me just how much of a hypocrite he is. He talks a lot about fairness and how people should be treated but he goes off on several people in this book that he disagrees with or does not understand. Name calling is rampant in some places, e.g. referring to Julio Iglesias as "swarmy."
Bill promotes himself as all knowing, knowing more about history, music, acting, TV shows (the list goes on and on) than anyone else. For example he advertised his book, "Killing Lincoln," as presenting new material that no one else had ever read. He might want to read a few other Lincoln books. After reading "Killing Lincoln" his self-promotion fails to meet the test.
This same attitude is also true in, "A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity: A Memoir."
If you choose to read this book, just remember you are in for a high dose of self-aggrandizement.
"Beautiful Story"
Laura Hillenbrand captures the story of Seabiscuit so well that it is difficult to put this book down. It is so moving that you feel as if you are right there during the races and the events occurring in the lives of the persons involved. I highly recommend this book.
"Not Very Funny"
I was very disappointed with this book. I rarely have an Audible book that I do not like but this book was not worth the time or effort. I listened all the way through and rarely was amused. O'Rourke seems to love vulgarity in portraying the story. I would not recommend this book unless you are a Rolling Stones Fan and then it would probably be of interest to you.
"A Powerful, Outstanding Book"
I have thoroughly enjoyed the writing and narration of The Help. The author draws the reader into the characters and makes you feel as if you are witnessing the story as it is being told. I have seen the movie also and as much as I enjoyed the movie, I enjoyed the book more. This is one of the top two books I have listened to or read this year and I highly commend it to everyone.
"Outstanding Story"
Laura Hillenbrand has written a gripping, heart touching story so beautifully weaving the story around the various characters in such a way that I could not put the book down. I often found myself crying as I listened to the horrendous cruelty, torture and pain being endured by the POWs. It was overwhelming to imagine that any person could be that evil.
The story depicts how one man's life is transformed through the power of God's redeeming grace where he could forgive even those who tortured him the most while the main torturer's life ended in arrogance and conceit.
This book and "Night" by Elie Wiesel are the two best books I have listened to this year.
