Perched in the far corner of a run-down New England mall, the Red Lobster hasn't been making its numbers, and headquarters has pulled the plug. But manager Manny DeLeon still needs to navigate a tricky last shift. With only four shopping days left until Christmas, Manny must convince his near-mutinous staff to hunker down and serve the final onslaught of hungry retirees, lunatics, and holiday office parties.

Would you try another book from Stewart O'Nan and/or Jonathan Davis?

Maybe. I've read other books by this author and enjoyed the character studies even though nothing much happens in his books. This one had even less plot and limited character study.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The author did a good job of showing the main character's somewhat obsessive traits.

What does Jonathan Davis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The book was well read, but I wonder if I would have enjoyed it more had I read it instead of listening. Some books are just better reads.

Do you think Last Night at the Lobster needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    No follow up needed.

Alex and Leslie Twisden lead charmed lives - fabulous jobs, a town house on Manhattan's Upper East Side, a passionate marriage. What they don't have is a child, and as they try one infertility treatment after the next, yearning turns into obsession. As a last-ditch attempt to make their dream of parenthood come true, Alex and Leslie travel to Slovenia, where they submit to a painful and terrifying procedure that finally gives them what they so fervently desire...but with awful consequences.

Would you listen to Breed again? Why?

No. Gripping story but once is plenty. I wasn't crazy about the reader, and many parts of the story made you think, "No one would act like this!"

What was one of the most memorable moments of Breed?

The ending itself was probably a good way to bring the story to closure, but the events that got the reader there strained credulity.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Parents: Your worst enemy.

    Any additional comments?

I was amazed to see this on a list of 50 best fiction books of the year. Must not have been a lot of competition -- and I love horror as a genre!
