"Good; not great"
No. Gripping story but once is plenty. I wasn't crazy about the reader, and many parts of the story made you think, "No one would act like this!"
The ending itself was probably a good way to bring the story to closure, but the events that got the reader there strained credulity.
Parents: Your worst enemy.
I was amazed to see this on a list of 50 best fiction books of the year. Must not have been a lot of competition -- and I love horror as a genre!
"Disappointed"
Maybe. I've read other books by this author and enjoyed the character studies even though nothing much happens in his books. This one had even less plot and limited character study.
The author did a good job of showing the main character's somewhat obsessive traits.
The book was well read, but I wonder if I would have enjoyed it more had I read it instead of listening. Some books are just better reads.
