In the 10 years since his classic Kitchen Confidential first alerted us to the idiosyncrasies and lurking perils of eating out, much has changed for the subculture of chefs and cooks, for the restaurant business and for Anthony Bourdain. Medium Raw explores those changes, tracking Bourdain's strange and unexpected voyage from journeyman cook to globe-traveling professional eater and drinker, and even to fatherhood. Bourdain takes no prisoners as he dissects what he's seen.

Andy says: "entertaining but not as good as kitchen conf."

  • Einstein: His Life and Universe

    • UNABRIDGED (21 hrs and 30 mins)

Why we think it’s a great listen: You thought he was a stodgy scientist with funny hair, but Isaacson and Hermann reveal an eloquent, intense, and selfless human being who not only shaped science with his theories, but politics and world events in the 20th century as well. Based on the newly released personal letters of Albert Einstein, Walter Isaacson explores how an imaginative, impertinent patent clerk became the mind reader of the creator of the cosmos.

Henrik says: "Surprise: Two books in one!"

I would definitely recommend this audiobook. The reader does an excellent job of telling the story. Isaacson was not afraid to mix history, biography and science in one text. Excellent work.

In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

What made the experience of listening to Altered Carbon the most enjoyable?

Very good performance by the reader.

What did you like best about this story?

Doesn't "focus" on the sci-fi... it focuses on the story.

What does Todd McLaren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Does a very good job of setting the tone.
