I went by the reader reviews on this one.I don't know if it was the reader or the story, but even through the obvious tragedies, I wasn't feeling it.
Thought the entire book was very uncolorful and bland.
The only part I felt a part of the story and a rise of emotion, was at the very end.
All in all, good ending, but took way to long to get there.
But Pillars of the Earth was a much better read.
This one was a bit more predictable
I do alot of driving and was looking for something that would last more than a week.
I always enjoy dual purpose reading, (a good story combined with lessons of history) so I came upon this book and figured I'd give it a shot.
Don't be fooled by the incerpt. The description of the subject matter does not do this novel justice. You will feel angry, hurt, excited, victorious, compassionate and ashamed.
What a fun book that will keep you hooked and needing to know what happens next. Will not dissapoint.
Warning though: Does have rape scenes that are a bit graphic, but I believe they just heighten your emotions, so you feel all the anger, disgust, hatred and shame of the character. Even a little understanding of the mind-set of the rapist, and the demented psychology that drives him.
