"interesting story-poor narration"
very poorly narrated. i only got through it because i was on a long transatlantic flight. the narrator speaks so S-L-O-W-L-Y and makes the wierdest pauses in the middle of sentences. the story was good and could earn about 4 stars but the narration badly let this down. avoid.
"story good, but spoilt by background music"
i only managed about an hour of this one. the story was very good and i liked the narrator, but it was SPOILT BY THE BACKGROUND MUSIC!!! When will directors understand? if we are listening to a book and it has integrity, we dont need music!!! people are quite capable of setting the scene in their own heads. i am really cross about this because (a) i wasted a credit and (b) i enjoyed the actual story, minus all the stupid, repetitive music and silly sound effects (beating hearts, crackling fires etc).
"dire, awful, avoid!!!"
terrible. i kept drifting off and had to rewind my ipod. the story was pointless and stupid. surely the author's worst ever. another reviewer said maybe his dog wrote it, very apt!
total waste of a credit, only good thing is i bought it during the sale. i normally love koontz, but he must be going through a bad patch. someone needs to take him aside and give him a good talking to!
"great story terrible narration"
a very good insight into the mind and world of mr darcy etc. however, the narrator was absolutely terrible, weird pauses and a horrible whiney voice. in the hands of a decent narrator this would have been a much, much better listen and would have deserved 5 stars.
"a perfect listen"
this is one of my all-time favourite fantasy books so i was delighted to see it on audible. as expected, i thoroughly enjoyed it, a magical listen and very well narrated. please can we have the other Majipoor books soon!
"perfectly executed!"
this is probably the best book ive heard on audible in over 2 years of listening! excellent story, beautifully performed. an excellent listen. pls can we have more of asimov read by this narrator? move over scott brick, your throne is taken!
"horrible, horibble, horrible"
i really love deaver and bought this straight away, then noticed it was abridged. what a hatchet job! why ruin a good story by ripping the guts out of it? the abridgment was so bad, i couldn't make head nor tail of it and gave up with about an hour to go. will wait for the full version. dont waste your credits on this mess. if i could, i would have given it no stars.
"WHAT A BORE!"
UNBELIEVABLY TEDIOUS. I COMPLETELY LOST THE PLOT AND AFTER STRUGGLING THROUGH ABOUT 6 HOURS FINALLY GAVE UP. LOTS OF SILLY ACCENTS, BORING STORY, DISTRACTING MUSIC, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND DON'T BOTHER
"complex story - a good listen"
i really enjoyed this story - so many twists and turns, it made my head hurt! i loved the character of lincoln rhyme. would love to hear more of him. worth listening to.
"MORE! MORE! MORE!"
brilliant! wonderfully read! great story! I listened to it some while ago and the characters are still in my head. Great descriptions, moving. A real insight into the underside of London and human nature. i'll never see Soho in the same light again. a great listen. moving. harrowing. awful. but good. listen to it now. I check every week for the next Stephen Leather. more please Audible!
