Lady Philippa Marbury is...odd. The brilliant, bespectacled daughter of a double marquess cares more for books than balls, for science than the season, and for laboratories than love. She's looking forward to marrying her simple fiancé and living out her days quietly with her dogs and her scientific experiments. But before that, Pippa has two weeks to experience all the rest - 14 days to research the exciting parts of life. It's not much time, and to do it right she needs a guide familiar with London's darker corners.

What disappointed you about One Good Earl Deserves a Lover?

Unbelievably sappy. I could not finish it and I like romance stories.

Did Rosalyn Landor do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

So so. I did like listening to her voice.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It started off well and I liked the characters.

    Any additional comments?

The plot had a lot of potential then half way through it as if a second author took over. The dialouge turned really sappy. I started wondering how Rosalyn Landor could even keep her voice steady and not break into uncontroled laughter.

What would have made Mercy better?

I didn't like the accent the narrator used. I had read this book a long time ago and was looking forward to listening to it, but the accents turned me off.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Bad accents. Sounded very forced and the rhythm was off.

In The Bughouse Affair, this first of a new series of lighthearted historical mysteries set in 1890s San Francisco, former Pinkerton operative Sabina Carpenter and her detective partner, ex-Secret Service agent John Quincannon, undertake what initially appear to be two unrelated investigations. Sabina's case involves the hunt for a ruthless lady "dip" who uses fiendish means to relieve her victims of their valuables at Chutes Amusement Park and other crowded places. Quincannon, meanwhile, is after a slippery housebreaker who targets the homes of wealthy residents.

Would you try another book from Bill Pronzini and Marcia Muller and/or Nick Sullivan and Meredith Mitchell ?

    No

Would you ever listen to anything by Bill Pronzini and Marcia Muller again?

    No

Would you be willing to try another one of Nick Sullivan and Meredith Mitchell ’s performances?

    No

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment

    Any additional comments?

I kept thinking this was going to get better but it never did. The whole premise was a little off. Also I would think a former Secret Service agent would be more adept at their profession. Sherlock Holmes, really? I also had problems with the male voice. Something about it just didn't fit also the male voice would do the female character and the female voice would do the male character then they would switch back so I never felt that I knew the right voice.

Would you ever listen to anything by Amanda Quick again?

I am a huge fan of Amanda Quick and have read or listened to all her books.

What didn’t you like about Justine Eyre’s performance?

I could not get use to Justine Eyre's voice. There was a quality about it that bothered me. I have been trying to figure out just what it is that I didn't like. The conclusion I came to was how edgy it was even at times when there was nothing in the story to be edgy about.
I wish Ann Flosnik had read it.

To most people, hat pins are vestiges of the past, used now only by elderly ladies who don't leave home without a hat. But recently, the notion store in Posadas County has been doing a good business selling hat pins to teenage girls. Following a "cat fight" over a boy, one of the girls, Carmen Acosta, had been suspended from school. But Carmen's friends are still around. Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

This was an OK book but not as good as previous books. I like Beth Richmond as a narrator. Her voice has more of a hispanic tone than Stephanie Brush. What is missing with this book is the family life of the characters. There was some, but not very much.
