"disturbing"
I wish I hadn't listened to this book. Although the story was fairly well written, it gets progressively more depressing and it seems that the main character only becomes more detached as she grows. There is one part in particular when I turned off the machine and fast forwarded and still heard enough to be left with horrible disturbing images. It's been several weeks and it still bothers me. So if you have trouble listening to a long detailed description of animal abuse, pass this one by.
"well worth the credit"
just finished this book and loved it. characters were well developed. beautifully narrated.
"Absolutely LOVED this book!"
This is a fabulous book - all the more so because it is read so beautifully.
"why?"
Why is this book getting such great reviews? this is not literature. It's totally implausible and the descriptive prose that everyone seems to like so much I found to be overdone to the point of being nauseating.
"Educators: please read"
Barbara Kingsolver writes beautifully and movingly - particularly about the impact of the human race on our delicate environment.
"A must read!"
This book was thoroughly engrossing. I found myself thinking about it all day, and looking forward to the next time I could listen. A wild assortment of characters, brought very much to life. I loved the reader too. I highly recommend this book, especially if you love a happy ending - this one is the best!
"ok"
The story was engrossing, but I did not care for the readers halting style at all. He read in fits and starts, always pausing mid sentence. I found it to be annoying.
