"Terry Pratchett is hilarious"
All of the disk world stories are fun. I liked the additional insight into the assasin's guild. I would love to have a list of all the character's names in the disk world... I think this had a little bit better love story then most... Not that that is critical to the story, but it adds additional depth. As i am writing this review, I can' remember a lot of the details of the story, but I remember liking it... That may give you some insight into what kind of story this is. Fun interesting fluff.
"It's just slow"
I want to like these books, and they are pretty good, but they are just so darn slow. I guess, since Nicholas Flammel is mentioned in Harry Potter, I thought these books would be almost as good. They are not. I like all the mythical references, and I especially like the Reference to Musashi Myomoto in this book, but just because the author chooses interesting characters, doesn't mean the story is not important. I want to finish the series, but honestly it seems to drag on.
"This changed the way I look at food!"
The information in this book was completely new to me. The things that we take for granted about food are not true (or at least unproven). This book was an exhaustive look at food and health, in particular the diseases of civilization. Very interesting stuff, but it is exhausting to listen to. The amount I learned made up for the excessive explanation and evidence... On the other hand i am not sure I would have been convinced with less evidence.
"Excellent background and awesome narrator"
The story was consistent with everything I know about star wars, and the narrators voice was just short of James earl jones himself...
I don't want to give away any of the story, but it was good all the way through
I listen to this on my way to work. It took a little over a week
"Interestin Topic"
I am extremely interested in Mafia stories. I have a feeling the actual book would have made more sense with page breaks and punctuation, but as it sounds it was a tribute to ADD. The story was all over the place. It had some cohesion with the Burton Kaplan story, but honestly, the lack of organization made it less enjoyable.
"Interesting"
This was an interesting view of a part of history I knew very little about. I was surprised by the religious theme running throughout until I read moreabout Mr. Endo. To be honest, the book was a little slow and lacked action. I am sure someone would argue that the glimpse into Japanese culture and the realness was amazing, but I found my interest waning.
"Not very good or thought provoking"
I was looking for some insight into mob history in the United States. This book has some of that, but it was so biased towards Anthony Casso it was ridiculous. It got to the point where I thought the author had some sort man-crush on this guy. The narrator was fine, but I would not recommend this book.
"Good Background and thought provoking"
I have never read the bible all the way through either. I was raised going to church every Sunday and most Wednesdays too. I really found it fascinating what was in the Bible vs. the digested stories I was taught.
I wish someone would look at the new testament the same way.
I would definitely recommend this book, unless you are easily offended by an analytical book at the bible.
"A little slow and overly dramatic"
I enjoyed the use of multiple voices. It made following the story (and who was telling it) very easy.
Dracula is a very fun topic to read about as well. I learned a little about eastern Europe and a little about the medieval period.
As I was listening to the story I found it repetative and a little overly dramatic with the music, pregnant pauses and the hit-you-over-the-head foreshadowing. I wouldn't say the book was bad, but there are other books I would recommend over this one.
"Maybe the first 3 were enough"
This story was OK. It was in the same vein as the original Bourne stories, but it lacks the heart and compelling mystery.
If I owned the rights to the Bourne franchise, I guess I would write more books as well, but honestly, this book was just OK.
