Northumberland, 1815: At long last, Britain is at peace, and General Jack Armstrong is coming home to the wife he barely knows. Wed for mutual convenience, their union unconsummated, the couple has exchanged only cold, dutiful letters. With no more wars to fight, Jack is ready to attempt a peace treaty of his own. Elizabeth Armstrong is on the warpath. She never expected fidelity from the husband she knew for only a week, but his scandalous exploits have made her the object of pity for years.

If you’ve listened to books by Susanna Fraser before, how does this one compare?

    Skip

Would you be willing to try another one of Camme Tyla’s performances?

Absolutely NOT. WAY TOO BORING -not performed but read in monotone. I never under-stand how such poor quality is produced when there are so many great narrators. Maybe someone is doing a favor for a relative!!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

    Did not finish so annoying.

Would you be willing to try another book from Cynthia Wicklund? Why or why not?

Depends on performer. This one may discourage trying another Wicklund book

How could the performance have been better?

Since it. Is clear she has a speech/diction problem & no acting skill I don't believe it is possible!

Do you think In the Garden of Disgrace needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Did not finish so can't say.

    Any additional comments?

I can't understand how this audio was even distributed & the performer was chosen by the producer. It always makes me think a relative needed a job!!

What did you like about this audiobook?

Anne flosnik's is always great & this one is amazing as she expertly switched from southern American accent to English-male - female very distinct.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

Just want more of this quality

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

Kept my interest & not too much sex

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

    Nothing

Do you have any additional comments?

I'm glad I found this book-it is not listed on Audibles historical romances or under the writers name. I found it on amazons lists-something that has happened before-ex. The Ugly Duchess which I emailed the lapse to audible but it still is not listed. After finding a book at amazon I can find it on Audible by searching the titles!!

What disappointed you about Midsummer Magic?

Irritating, little story, too much aggressive sex--often appears forced.

What could Catherine Coulter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Since book covered so much bickering & sex I think it would be impossible.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

    Narrator OK.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger, disappointment, irritation. boredom. Shock as I have been a fan of Coulter and have all her other historical's in audio.

    Any additional comments?

Entire Magic series has same issues. Sorry spent the time and $ on the books.

Damien Knight, the earl of Winterley, is proud, aloof, and tormented by memories of war. Though living in seclusion, he is named guardian to a fellow officer's ward. Instead of the young homeless waif he was expecting, however, Miranda FitzHubert is a stunning, passionate beauty who invades his sanctuary and forces him back into society. Struggling to maintain honor and self-control, Damien now faces an even greater threat: desire.

Where does Lord of Ice rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

    Better than average story.

What other book might you compare Lord of Ice to and why?

    Jo Beverley books.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Hero's voice terrible, insipid, weak, unromantic, no

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes if there was a different narrator.

    Any additional comments?

I don't understand how this narrator's performance got past the producer or the publisher. One would think they'd do

This is only my second review after listening to hundreds of books but I have to make Audible aware of the poor quality of the narration.. I was sooo looking forward to another MJPutney audio but I could barely finish listening. The American Female accents were "horsey" and gruff--not the least bit feminine with diction that certainly did not reflect cultured, well to do Americans. I'm surprised that Brilliance even released this audio as it certainly does not meet their usual high quality.

Widowed Julia, Lady Winterset, has inherited a book - a very shocking book - that every gentleman in London seems to want. For a charismatic businessman, it’s a chance to build an empire. For a dashing novelist, it could guarantee fame. But to a proud, domineering earl, it means everything. Harrison Landingham, Earl of Mountdale, can’t let the obstinate Julia release the shameless memoir that could ruin his family’s name. But the only way to stop her may be equally sordid - if far more pleasurable. For his rivals are intent on seducing the captivating woman to acquire the book.

This is my first review after purchasing hundreds of audios. No voice differences between characters. It is like listening to a computer. Not up to the usual quality of the publisher. I don't know if I have ordered a book with this narrator before but this one is terrible. The book has a little lower price but I'd rather pay a little more to enjoy the listening experince.

Captain John Staple’s exploits in the Peninsula had earned him the sobriquet Crazy Jack amongst his fellows in the Dragoon Guards. Now home from Waterloo, life in peacetime is rather dull for the adventure-loving Captain. But when he finds himself lost at an unmanned toll-house in the Pennines, his soldiering days suddenly pale away beside an adventure - and romance - of a lifetime.

One of the best narrators I've heard. He is very gifted. I really like to be able to disquish the characters and when a male voice is able to make a female sound like a female without using a high-squeeky voice.
