"Awesome Listen"
I recently saw the movie and couldn't stop thinking about it. I decided to check out the audio book even though i was a bit worried that since I knew how it ended that I would find it boring. I was not disappointed even though the Movie was an excellent adapation of the book there was still alot of content and dialog the book offered that made it very enjoyable and difficult to tear myself away.
Mr Mcarthy has a gift with words and storys I am totally in awe of how of how he can pull the reader into the story with the detail and dialog of the characters while at the same time forcing the reader to use the reader to think and use their imagination.
There is a lot of action and violence in the book to keep you interested but its the dialog of the characters that make it great!
The Narrator is great as well he does a fantistic Job of making the book feel authentic. He also makes it easy for you to tell the diffence between characters with the tone and style of his voice which not all narrators can do. I will now look for him on future books I pick.
"Just can't get enough Sandford!"
I love Sandford books but recently been hesitant to purchase them thinking that Lucas Davenport is going to get old and boring. Sandford Never Disappoints. this book is excellent even if you read the later books where he already has some characters introduced by the story you'll still love it. I am not going to hesitate in getting a Sanford book in the future and now going through my library to see if there are any I haven't listened to yet.
Im suprised there isn't a whole slew of movies based on Davenport.
"Couldn't stop listening to it"
Tom Clancy is back on his game. Lately I have been dissapointed with Clancy's books I felt as if they were ghost written. This book was the best book since " A clear and preset danger" . The cyber war part was excellent. Im an IT professional and felt for the most part the computer technology parts were believable, I even learned some new things.
This book started out immediately interesting I couldn' t stop listening to it. I felt the narrator did a great job the only thing I didn't like was the voice he used for the Russian.
"I suffered through it"
I loved all James Lee Burke previous books but I found this extremely difficult to listen too. I found it very difficult to follow burke seemed to think adding more plot twists was a good thing. Where actually it just started to become absurd. Generally I can get through an audio book in a week, I was so unimpressed and unexcited to listen to it took a month. I can't believe most people gave this a good review?
"Great Movie Awesome Book!"
I was a little hesitant about picking up this book since I have seen the movie dozens of times. I am really glad I did, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Reading this book made the movie seem even better. The movie did a great job in keeping true to the book. The book added more character development and back stories that wasn't possible to fit into a 2 hour movie.
The author does a great job of getting you interested in the plot and charaters from the very beginning and then never letting up. The book keeps and perfect pace never too much or too little detail.
Frank Muller one of the best narrators ever and he didn't disappoint in this book, he nailed all the characters.
The only thing I didn't like about this book is I was so captivated by it I couldn't stop listening and finished it within the first few days instead of stretching it for a week or two by listening to it on Walks and Commuting
"Virgil good as ever"
I was a little hesitant to listen to this at first due to some previous negative reviews. Since I haven't been disappointed by Sanders in the past I decided to go ahead and use my credit to get it. I was not disappointed this was another excellent Sanford book and I think one of the better Virgil Flowers adventures. The story was interesting and alot of twist and turns that kept you guessing who the killer was. I always like how Sanford gives you the point of view of the killer without giving away his/her identity it adds alot to the story. looking forward to Sandford's next book.
"Boring, not very funny for women only"
I bought this book thinking it would be good for my wife and I to enjoy on our summer vacation road trip. I found very little of this book inspiring or funny. I think from a womens perspective that it might have been funnier therefore Im giving it two stars instead of just one.
I don't recommend this book for men to listen . The book is all about what it takes for you to be a women to overcome sexism in the workplace. I don't see myself as a sexist and believe I view women as equals in a professional workplace but I found her feminist values and instructions obnoxious and arrogant.
If your like me and looking for a good book to listen to with your Significant others try something different.
"absolutely loved it! well worth the credits!"
I wasn't sure that i was going to be able to deal with 6 hours straight of Adams corolla rants but this was the funniest audio book I have ever heard. Im going to get the written book so I can read some excerpts from to my friends and family. Not only is it funny but its right on I believe in almost everything he said except Immigation ( white guys don't do any hard labor jobs for me in my area no matter how poor they are) but I digress , this is a must for all guys. all previous negative comments must be from chicks
"boring and unbelievable"
I was very disappointed with this book , very predictable expect a bit more from this writer. The characters were impossible to believe everyone one of them was a certified corporate jet pilot, expert warrior with every weapon and spoke perfect arabic. I won't make a mistake of getting anything from this author again.
Narrator was good though.
"Great but not best"
I don't agree with other reviewers that this was the best Robecheau book. Burkes writing was beautiful and Patton's naration was perfect.
However I thought the plot was a little over the top and dragged out. Pete and Dave must be in their 60s so the things they do are a bit hard to believe. Alafair had a run in with bad guys in a previous novel so her actions in this novel don't follow that experience.
Its still an excellent novel and worth the use of a credit especially if your a fan of burke and listened to all other of his novels.
Tin Roof Blow Down I believe is still the best Dave Robicheaux novel.
"gripping"
I'm a 3rd into this story and so far its fascinating and enjoyable. The author has put a lot of little details of daily life which really puts you right there. The narrator is excellent and for the most part can tell the difference between the many characters in the story. My only issue is there are a lot of different characters in the story so you need to pay close attention in the beginning to know who they all are.
I have read and listened to a lot of Vietnam War books. Most have been from the perspective of the privates where all the officers are made to look like idiots who can care less. In this book the protagonists are young lieutenants, which make it a bit different and more realist view
