Maureen Paschal thought she might rest and work on her book after discovering the gospel written by Mary Magdalene that revealed Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married. The truth of their story rocked the world and made Maureen a target of those who did not like her discovery and a heroine to those who did.

If you are into traditional religion this is not the book for you. If you are open to a great story, spiritual and romantic, woven into history in a "heretical" way, I definitely recommend this book. The narrator does a wonderful job playing all of the parts. I hated for the book to end. Who knows what really happened in history? Even if we were there would we know the whole story? I cannot wait for Kathleen McGowan's next book.

Mike Wingate had a rough childhood  —  he was abandoned at a playground at four years old and raised in foster care. No one ever came to claim him, and he has only a few, fragmented memories of his parents. Now, as an adult, Mike is finally living the life he had always wanted  —  he’s happily married to Annabel, the woman of his dreams; they have a precocious eight-year-old daughter, Kat.

This is a great book and intense from the beginning. It is not the kind of book I normally listen to and I found myself wishing I hadn't gotten it but I got hooked and had to hear the whole thing. The performance is masterful. You will not be disappointed if you like suspense and you like your stories on the rough side.

Where does The Rook rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Well I've listened to a lot of audiobooks but I rarely write reviews so this is up there.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Rook?

So many great moments but I really enjoyed the main character's first field experience.

What about Susan Duerden’s performance did you like?

She has a great way of portraying all of the characters, male and female.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I did cry at the end.

    Any additional comments?

Fun ride, a little sci-fi, a little action, a little detective. So glad I got it and will look for both the author and narrator again.

Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six. They were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry was thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future.

Get the unabridged version! I did not want this book to end - I would definitely listen to it again. When I told my friend about it she told me she read the print version twice! The story is beautiful, the characters are rich, the genre cannot be clearly defined. Watch for the movie, you can bet there will be one!

Two thousand years ago, Mary Magdalene hid a set of scrolls in the French Pyrenees: the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, her version of the life of Jesus and the events of the New Testament. Protected by supernatural forces, these sacred scrolls could be uncovered only by a special seeker, one who fulfills the ancient prophecy of L'Attendu, the Expected One.

    Overall

There is a lot going on in this book. The afterward by the author intimates that it is not quite fiction although it must be categorized as such and I thought it was very brave of her to do that. The story does make you think and I do agree with the author when she says that history was written by the winners - so who knows what they didn't tell us? I look forward to the sequels - I hope there are many. I would listen to this book again.

How to manifest more in your life of whatever you want - a lot of books leave you hanging, but this one gives you a simple formula. It is the clearest book I have found in many years of searching. You will easily recognize the value and truth of what is said and will see yourself in the examples. My life has changed for the better! Highly recommend!
