Hope the author writes a sequel soon. Really kept me interested and it was a very well written book. It kept me so interested and the events unfolded at a good pace. Sad not know certain facts/details but I kind of like it the way it was all nicely put together.
This books is so interesting and great; it is real and fun - so well written it keeps you interested and moves at perfect speed. The characters are from our every day lives. I cannot say it enough how much Caroline Lee is my super hero of narrating in such a marvelous way, it is just a pleasure to listen to her.
This is such a good book, an excellent story, a well developed sequence of events, so excellently put together and narrated in a superb manner. I have been frantically looking for more like this because I enjoyed it so much that I am desperate to find more. Please listen to this book, it is just wonderful and enjoyable.
This is one of my favorite author and probably my favorite narrator. Yet, this book gave me some mixed feelings because it was very sad. There were times I had to speed up the narration to end the overwhelmingly depressing scenes in the book. I must admit I got frustrated by the sequence of bad events throughout the story. The story and plot are solid in this novel; a good set of characters and very interesting with many well researched facts of the time and era of the story is impressive. I enjoyed the book and recommend to all listeners that enjoy long good books.
Loved this story, it is beautifully written, narrated so well like only Caroline Lee can do it. I think this is the best I have listened to this year. So glad I bought it and highly recommend it.
Great interesting story, narrated excellently by Wanda McCaddon. One just cannot help but feel that it is very sad and if you are prone to be impacted by your audiobooks, then this one will not cheer you up. Nevertheless, it is a great story and I am very glad I listened to it.
This is an amazing story, a great journey, a fantastic outcome and a wonderful narrator.
For all the excellent reviews of this book and how highly rated it has been everywhere I looked, I have to say I was not so impressed. It is a little dark, a bit of a downer for me. The mayhem background of Ireland in the 80's was too much chaos, along with the character lack of self-awareness, sort of re-inventing itself with every twist and turn of the story. The narrator was good and fit well with my overall perception of the story gloominess. The wrap up and outcome of this novel left me skeptical about deciding if I wanted to read more in this trilogy from Adrian McKinty. I cannot say I will yet, maybe I will change my mind in the future.
I started to like the book and thought it had an interesting well thought story in the beginning; then unfortunately the author might have run out of imagination and the story stops evolving and becomes all sexuality with very descriptive details and unnecessary repetitive of the same act. I have to say that Josephine Bailey is one of my favorites because she is just wonderful. However, this book was so hollow that not even her excellent performance can save it. I am in the middle of this book but I do not think I will be able to finish it. I am sick of the step-by-step description of every time the couple in the story decide to have intimacy. There is no substance to this story at this point and I am very disappointed.
Nothing happened for hours. Finally gave up after 3 hours, could not take it anymore.
The story captures interest and is well narrated. However, the characters are so very dark, dysfunctional, and outright crazy that is hard to get pass and give the story the credit it may deserve. I think if there were any sane, normal or nice characters I would have liked this better. This novel was just absolutely too dark to me.
