"Too Many "Talking Heads""
Normally, I like David Weber's stories and read with delight the two precursors to this series (about Stephanie Harrington and the tree cats). However, there were too many instances in this book where characters were simply talking to each other; no action, just talk. The action sequences were good and the story line is good but there was too much of the characters merely talking to each other.
The problem is that now I have a strong hesitation about going any further in this series. I don't care to read (or listen to) any more conversations.
"An okay story"
The synopsis is deceptive. The story is different than what it appears. It's an okay story but not one I would listen to twice.
"Decent Story, Strange Ending"
The main story was okay, nothing really unexpected but not boring. Also, I thought the back stories could have been better. The ending was a bit strange. It started to wind down as expected but then suddenly picked up as though this was book one of a series with no prior indication that this would be the case. I don't know if I'll read another one by this author. I'm still deciding.
"Satisfying Ending but Boring Interlude"
Overall I've liked this author. I really enjoyed Chasing Fireflies so I was a bit disappointed in this one. Some of the detailed descriptions of guns and their use didn't add anything to the story and made me want to fast-forward. If I had been reading this in print, I would have skipped over those pages. Also, some of the musings of the protagonist were overly long and repetitive. I think with a little better editing, this could have been a five star book.
The narrators were very good. I can't fault them at all. It was very easy to tell who was talking and who wasn't. They both were excellent.
"Absolutely Superb"
A wonderful story by a wonderful story teller. The characters are interesting and well developed, the transitions are smooth and it has a very satisfying ending. I will be looking for more by this author.
"Nice Story but Predictable"
I usually enjoy Robin Cook and this was no exception but it wasn't as enjoyable as previous books. It felt too formulaic and there weren't any real surprises in it, i.e., nothing unexpected happened. Not bad just not great.
"Excellent, Baldacci Does It Again!"
Excellent story, excellent characters. It keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end. Very enjoyable!
"Disappointing"
The story idea was good and there are some good characters but the actions of some of the characters are contrived. Whenever the author wants a twist in the story, two of the characters simply "give up". All of a sudden, after taking multiple risks and discovering deceptions, they just give up and go along with one of the antagonists. It just make sense and is very frustrating.
"Good story"
This is a good story. The characters are well-developed and the story comes to a satisfactory conclusion. No contrived plot twists or anything. It's well-developed.
"KPax Redux"
It wasn't a bad idea and the story is not bad,it's just not really science fiction. This should be in the general fiction category.
