Byron Katie stands alone when it comes to self-help. For 30 years I have been reading what is available and many, many times the books explain the problem at great length but fall short in application. I was expecting the usual "Hmmm... another book, another way of saying the same stuff, maybe this one will have it" type of thinking when I originally approached this writer but, instead, I found myself lifted, inspired and injected with enthusiasm from her straight no nonsense approach.
It's ok to admit we have issues because we all do. All the books tell us what we shouldn't be thinking, suggesting that we stop the wrong habits of thought, but where do we send those thoughts, how can we just replace them with a new sentences that don't belong to us and yet are somehow expected to be the new success formulars for our circumstance. Do you know what,.....I have discovered that it is better to be found running towards something than running away from something. You see, if you were running for a bus/train and tripped, you would just get up, dust yourself off and keep going. Your mind would be on the destination because YOU WANT IT, you're running towards it.
But, if you were trying to run away from something, say bad thinking or another habit, and you slip up, you're more likely to beat up on yourself for slipping. We'd all look back then and see things like how little the distance we have made and feeling guilty and shameful & want to give up or whatever. There really is a big difference here.
Katie offers something exciting and substantial for us to run towards, something if taken seriously, can end the war within, which in turn, can only help end the war without, at least in our own circle and that's better than it was. Within her writings is a profound permission to re-invent yourself which can only fill your heart with a new adoration, love and gratitude to be here, alive, and able to pay it forward.
I sincerely recommend any of her writings..Christine Villa:)
Hearing someone else put the inner battle into words does something. It's not something you can put your finger on immediately. It slides it's way into your life long after you've finished listening to it's voice.
The art of doing something that you don't like or even hate, for ANOTHER REASON is what I call intelligent success.
I'm glad he kept his cool with Boris Becker. That is inner strength.
Agassi taught much in this read even if he didn't really intend to. To me, every time I sat and listened to more, it was like rowing a boat along a very scenic river called Character, with all its ups and downs. You don't need to be a tennis fan to read or listen to this one as Agassi doesn't spend too much time on the actual matches. Absolutely loved it because I was able to see parts of the human character so much clearer and I just really enjoyed spending time with Andre Agassi.
I have not read the book, just listened to the audio.
The writer has you there with her every step of the way and it's a genuine friendly approachable sharing attitude.
The audio reading is as real as the writing. There is nothing here to rub you the wrong way in tone or manner
I listened to it each night after my busy day and was blessed to be able to enter into her world so easily.
There is enough evidence around now to prove that Doctors are not always right. I remember reading a book called "Power in the Helping Profession" and got more of an understanding of what else goes on behind the scenes. What you have here is the story of a very competent Lady who was aware of her own gut instinct and is alive today because of it. But there is so much more to this story. This lady has been to the inner world of her own being and she has harnessed a number of qualities that have strengthened her character to greater heights than most. It was obvious to me that the strength was there before the 'Incident' too. I think this lady will always know how to fly like an eagle because this book demonstrated to me that she has long left the clucking with hens on the ground.
