This book goes off into rambling and uninteresting histories of two islands off the coast of Maine. Intermittently the family history of the protaganist is told in long, boring detail. Initially you want to know what is going to happen to Ruth Thomas, an educated girl living among ignorant people stuck in the past, but the story goes on too long without engaging the reader. I would not recommend wasting the credits/money.
I think the title sums it up. Many hard boiled detective stories give the details...But the details usually help you connect to the main character, or provide you with some perspective into the case. This book gives LOTS of details that are of minimal interest to the reader.
Great story that keeps you on the edge of your seat with a truly hate-able villian. Great story line with main characters you respect, like, and want to win!
Boring story about a boring man and the gullible or egotistical people around him. This is a story about miserable people lacking common sense allowing a group of putzes to lead them astray despite the pull of their intuition. Couldn't even finish it.
Familiar story, familiar characters. No new plot twists, I kept waiting for something extraordinary to happen to break the monotony of a predictable plot (if you've read the others in this series). No cigar. But still a decent story.
Another winner from one of my all time favorite authors. Nora Roberts crafts a great story about a strong, intelligent woman. The detail about her work, family, and friends leaves you feeling the warm, fuzzy comfort associated with spending time with an old friend. But there is enough heat and suspense to keep the story from falling into clichéd sloppy romance without a backbone.
