Ann Blake, a rare-book expert and conservator, was imprisoned for a drunk-driving accident that she doesn't remember, one that resulted in the death of her husband, a famous rare-book expert. But she is freed from prison by CIA undercover agent Tucker Anderson in exchange for her help and expertise on the Library of Gold, a legendary collection of books that have been lost to the world for over a century.

For a book about a golden library, it is crazy that the reader cannot pronounce the word library correctly. The story its self is just ok. I get the impression the writer likes to prove how much smarter she is than the reader, but many of the attempts just come across as awkward and detract from the story.

Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. A senior in high school, he's still secretly preoccupied with a series of fantasy novels he read as a child, set in a magical land called Fillory. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the craft of modern sorcery.

I really didn't enjoy this book at all. It was overly influenced by Harry Potter, The Tales of Narnia, and a touch of Lord of the Rings. A combination of great books, but with all the fun sucked out. The book lacks any original ideas and the characters are all very depressing and one dimensional. All their actions are triggered out the character's boredom. The book's main point seems to be to prove that there isn't anything magical about magic. It's a book with out hopes, dreams, or aspirations.
