If you could sum up Lean In in three words, what would they be?

    A must read!

What did you like best about this story?

Maybe some women don't need to hear this; maybe they are already aware and changing or simply not this way, but as an executive with almost two decades of experience, this one captured my attention and then left me gaping in horror--I was hearing her describe me! Only, I thought I was alone. I wanted to hear more--who was this intruder and how did she escape?

    Any additional comments?

This is one I will keep in my office and hand out like candy

A Gentleman in Moscow immerses us in an elegantly drawn era with the story of Count Alexander Rostov. When, in 1922, he is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, the count is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel's doors.

When their father dies, Star D'Aplièse and her six sisters, all adopted by him from the four corners of the world, are left with few clues to their heritage. But Star - the most enigmatic of the sisters - is hesitant to step out of the safety of the close relationship she shares with her sister CeCe. In desperation, she decides to follow her first clue, which leads her to an antiquarian bookshop in London, and the start of a whole new world....

Hum, as much as I want to like this one, it is not possible. The sister, Star, seems lackluster and needing backbone, constantly being ordered around by those around her. Where is her personality? Ugh. Painful. And, going back in time, Flora becomes exceedingly unlikeable and naive, making the same mistake over and over again, never learning from the outcome.

When Vivien Walker left her home in the Mississippi Delta, she swore never to go back, as generations of the women in her family had. But in the spring, nine years to the day since she'd left, that's exactly what happens - Vivien returns, fleeing from a broken marriage and her lost dreams for children. What she hopes to find is solace with "Bootsie", her dear grandmother who raised her, a Walker woman with a knack for making everything all right. But instead she finds that her grandmother has died and that her estranged mother is drifting further away from her memories.

Lucy Hutton has always been certain that the nice girl can get the corner office. She's charming and accommodating and prides herself on being loved by everyone at Bexley & Gamin. Everyone except for coldly efficient, impeccably attired, physically intimidating Joshua Templeman. And the feeling is mutual.

Forbidden love. Family secrets. A twist of fate. The stunning new generational saga from Belinda Alexandra, best-selling author of Tuscan Rose and White Gardenia. In New Orleans - the city of genteel old houses covered in Spanish moss, of seductive nightlife, of Creole, voodoo and jazz - two women separated by time and tragedy will find each other at last.

I enjoyed this book, however, the last three hours were a hard to get through. The story became about hurricane Katrina, a devastating event in the Gulf Coast and an unfortunate show of racism and lack of leadership in our government. But I wanted the characters back and to move on with their stories, not this new character. Otherwise, a beautiful story.

When Arlene Fleet heads up north for college, she makes three promises to God: She will stop fornicating with every boy who crosses her path; never tell another lie; and never, ever go back to the "fourth rack of hell", her hometown of Possett, Alabama. All she wants from Him is one little miracle: make sure the body is never found.

Aged Mother Jilo is wise in the ways of magic...but once upon a time, she was just a girl. 1950s Georgia: King Cotton has fallen. Savannah is known as the "beautiful woman with a dirty face," its stately elegance faded by neglect, its soul withering from racial injustice and political corruption. Young Jilo - fiercely independent, intelligent, and ambitious, but thwarted by Savannah's maddeningly genteel version of bigotry - finds herself forced to embrace a dark power that has pursued her family for generations, an ancient magic that may prove her salvation.

Would you try another book from J. D. Horn and/or Mia Ellis?

I'm all tapped out after this one. I felt like the series started off with strong, well-rounded characters, but ended with scene after scene of hackneyed witch battles where no one ever dies forever. Like the Terminator, they just keep coming back again and again.

What could J. D. Horn have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I have no idea how such a strong, fascinating character in the first book could be transformed into such a weak, almost dunce-like individual. A sad miss.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Sadly, not for me. A great disappointment

Would you try another book from J. D. Horn and/or Shannon McManus?

    Yes

Would you be willing to try another book from J. D. Horn? Why or why not?

Yes. I've liked the series thus far, but I do feel she loses her path and goes way overboard--I had to skip several chapters (the whole mouse/man with Emily droned on, as did the "storm and wolf scenes). Like fashion, sometimes you need to take one or two things off. Also, there are points when I found myself thinking, ok, enough already. Let this character die.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I love the scenes with Jilo the most.
