  • Raintree: Inferno

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 56 mins)
    • By Linda Howard
    • Narrated By Hillary Huber, Stefan Rudnicki

Two hundred years after the Raintree clan defeated and abandoned them on a small Caribbean Island, the Ansara wizards are rising again to take on their bitterest foes. Despite their extraordinary powers and supernatural origin, the Raintree have largely blended into the modern world. They are bankers, cops, husbands, wives, and lovers in the society of humankind. But now, from Nevada to North Carolina, the rejoined battle will measure the endurance of their people.

Virginia A. Mickelson says: "A 'no ending' story"
    "A great start . . ."

Linda Howard is one of my all-time favorite authors. She's written 2 of my favorite paranormal stories, "DREAM MAN" and "SON OF THE MORNING."
In this book "Raintree: Inferno," the sexual tension between Dante and Lorna is sooo electric you can feel your skin tingle!
I agree with other reviewers that the female narrator's intonations did not endear the listener to Lorna's character and is, at times, quite grating on one's nerves (it bothered me too!). Still, if you can ignore the female narrator's voice and concentrate on Stefan Rudnicki's voice (male narrator), you'll enjoy this book.

  • Alanna, The First Adventure: Song of the Lioness, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Tamora Pierce
    • Narrated By Trini Alvarado

Alanna of Trebond is no ordinary girl: her dream is to become a knight. So she disguises herself as a boy and begins training at the palace of King Roald. Alanna quickly finds out that the road to knighthood is not an easy one, but her skills and stubborness help her become friends with Prince Jonathan and his followers. At the same time, Alanna makes an enemy of the prince's uncle, the overly charming Duke Roger.

    Hallie says: "my favorite"
    "A fabulous audio . . ."

This audiobook is a fabulous find! A great story about a girl who longs to live in a world that is strickly forbidden to her --- the life of a knight! And to top it off, her brother Thom hates the very thing she aspires to be because he wants to be a wizard.
It's a wonderful story of unrelenting determination, pin-point focusing, and sheer strength-of-will that draws the listener into the story and keeps one enthralled until the end. It's a short story (less than 6 hours) as most audio's go, still, Trini Alvarado is a wonderful narrator who makes this audio a pleasure to listen to!

  • Raintree: Sanctuary

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs)
    • By Beverly Barton
    • Narrated By Gabrielle de Cuir, Stefan Rudnicki

War with their archrival, the evil Ansara clan, is unavoidable. For Mercy Raintree, a war means she must assume her position as guardian of the Sanctuary: the sacred Raintree home place deep in the Smoky Mountains. But doing so threatens to disclose her most prized secret, one Mercy has kept to herself for six years.

    says: "A disappointment"
    "An unexpected conclusion . . ."

Beverly Barton is a good writer, however, the storyline to the conclusion of the Raintree and Ansara clash was not the best. I agree with Rebecca that the interaction between Judah Ansara and Mercy Raintree had wayyyy too much violence. And that the brevity of the book (under 300 pages) restricted full development of the main characters and the inclusion of the great couples that we met in the earlier books of this trilogy.

  • What Matters Most

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 12 mins)
    • By Luanne Rice
    • Narrated By Ann Marie Lee
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Sister Bernadette Ignatius has returned to Ireland in the company of Tom Kelly to search for the past and the son they left behind. For it was here that these two long-ago lovers spent a season of magic before Bernadette's calling led her to a vocation as Mother Superior at Star of the Sea Academy on the sea-tossed Connecticut shore.

Janit L Johnson says: "A Pure Love Story"
    "A satisfying conclusion!"

"What Matters Most" is a satisfying conclusion to Sister Bernadette's story. The conflict / angst amongst the three principles in this story, the personal tension between man and woman, and the very personal struggle within Sister Bernadette, makes for a riveting listen. Thoroughly enjoyable!

  • Fit for a King

    • ABRIDGED (2 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By Diana Palmer

They were friends, neighbors, and occasional confidants. Certainly nothing more. Now Kingston Roper needs a favor from Elissa Dean, he needs her to get caught in his bed.

Joann says: "Good book, too bad it's abridged!"
"Good book, too bad it's abridged!"

Diana Palmer is one of my favorite "love stories" authors --- a true romance writer. "Fit for a King" is a great book, but a very unsatisfactory abridged audio. And, because I prefer UNABRIDGED audiobooks I usually WON'T buy an unabridged. BUT, because Audible doesn't have any other audios by Diana Palmer I purchased the abridged. It's just not the same! UNABRIDGED audiobooks, please!

  • Dark Truth

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 23 mins)
    • By Lindsay McKenna
    • Narrated By Gabra Zackman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Ana was spawned by the Dark Lord himself, but every instinct she possesses screams that she isn't evil. She is good - just as her mother was. But Ana has to know the truth about her shape-shifting abilities and mystical origins. Her jaguar senses and dreams lead her to the jungles of Peru - and to a kind stranger with haunting green eyes.

Margo says: "I did finish it..."
    "Dark Truth by Lindsay McKenna"

I enjoy all of Lindsay McKenna's books. She uses fiction to reinforce spiritual teachings that have been passed on for generations. The redundancies noted in her books are there for a reason --- like, did you get it? Too bad Harlequin did not audio her first book in this series!
