  • Wish You Well

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By David Baldacci
    • Narrated By Norma Lana, David Baldacci

It is 1940 and a tragedy sends Lou and her little brother, Oz, along with their invalid mother, from New York City to the rugged mountains of Southwest Virginia to live with their great-grandmother. The story is told with both heartbreaking elegance and large doses of touching humor as the lives of Lou and Oz are changed forever.

John says: "Not your usual Baldacci"
    "Wonderful story!"

I had to read this book for a grad class. I love this story. It's a lovely and complicated coming of age novel. It has all the characteristics of a great story, humor, tragedy, love, and a good message for the listener/reader to come away with. The narrator does a nice job and I'm glad I listened to it instead of read the book.

  • A Discovery of Witches

    • UNABRIDGED (24 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Deborah Harkness
    • Narrated By Jennifer Ikeda
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library.

    Tim says: "True Blood PG13"
"Spoke to the author through Facebook!"

This book has something for everyone! It has a fast paced plot that includes fantasy, romance, action, suspense, mystery, and historical fiction. The narrator was excellent especially considering the many accents that were required for the characters.

I wrote to the author on her Facebook page and she wrote me back almost immediately! Good news for anyone else who enjoyed this book!

Me: Just finished your book which I purchased from
I was hooked right away and thought the narrator was wonderful in further bringing the characters to life. I'm so glad to read there's going to be a second book! I was wondering if you were thinking of writing a series? I hope so!!! This is what i have been looking for since Twilight and Harry Potter. I especially love what the true historical parts bring to the story. It helps make the story come to life! Thank you! :)

Deborah Harkness: There will be two more books--and I agree that Jennifer Ikeda is fantastic. I've been listening to it as I travel and it's brought the whole book back to life for me, too.

The only thing I wish was different about this book is that, at times, I wish the story would slow down and go into more depth, especially about some of the historical aspects of this book. Perhaps an illustrated version would be available someday? :)

  • The Broken Teaglass

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 38 mins)
    • By Emily Arsenault
    • Narrated By Eileen Stevens, Oliver Wyman, Therese Plummer
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The dusty files of a venerable dictionary publisher, a hidden cache of coded clues, a story written by a phantom author, an unsolved murder in a gritty urban park: all collide memorably in Emily Arsenault's magnificent debut, at once a teasing literary puzzle, an ingenious suspense novel, and an exploration of definitions: of words, of who we are, and of the stories we choose to define us.

Ed says: "Enjoyable Book with Great Characters"
    "The Broken Teaglass"

This book was okay. I was really excited to listen to it based upon the description. I liked the general idea of the plot but just found it lacking in some parts. I think I was looking for a little more excitement rather than detective work.

I thought the narrators did a nice job and enjoyed learning more about lexicography. If you are interested in learning about how a dictionary is created and enjoy a mystery, you'll like this book.

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Angela Hunt
    • Narrated By Alma Cuervo

Every year for two decades, David Payne invites his five closest college friends to travel with him on a weeklong humanitarian mission. And each year, they are too busy. This year, however, when David's funeral reunites them, they decide to fulfill his mission to a far-flung Pacific island. But something unplanned and mind-boggling occurs.

    "Something Different"

It's hard to say what I think of this book. It took awhile to get into and understand each character. While this book kept me listening because I wanted to know what was going on, I was rather disturbed when I did finally understand. I agree with the other review that says "makes you think."
