I liked to read as a child and thanks to Audible, I'm able to multitask whilst enjoying 'Me Time' in the form of a good book.

Desdimona Green has been the name on everyone’s lips in Blink, Texas. Twenty-five years ago, at the age of 18, she shot and killed one of Blink’s wealthiest men, a pillar of the community, oil baron Julian Gatewood. The Gatewood family was considered untouchable, so the whole state of Texas was rocked to its core over Julian’s murder. But people were even more shocked to discover that Desi was Julian’s daughter and that her mother had been his lover for years.

In many areas, we, as women, have earned the equality we've been fighting for. We've broken through glass ceilings and achieved great success. We've shown that we can prosper by our own means. And we've become influential, respected leaders. Yet many of us find ourselves unhappy, anxious, and overwhelmed. Where's the pot of gold at the end of our "I can do it just like a man" rainbow? The problem is that while we can be as successful as men, we don't get there through a masculine approach.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

What made the experience of listening to The Help the most enjoyable?

The many characters with different voices and the story was intriguing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Help?

The cake the maid took over to the house after the mean daughter fired her:)

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

So real and so passionate with the storyline. You felt like you were watching a movie.

If you could rename The Help, what would you call it?

The title is good and honest as that's what the maids were called and the term is still used. It's a more polite term than they used in the times the story was depicted.

    Any additional comments?

This book was awesome and published well! It's a different perspective for the times it was written about.
