This exhaustive history is one of the best on the subject. Gibbon knew his material and gave us one of the greatest works about the long period that this history covers. Where this history might seem long and tedious in places, it is made up for by the numerous explanations of battles and descriptions of the cities and characters of the times. Where Gibbon sometimes seems to opinionated about the times and people, he gives reasons for this and helps the listener to understand the circumstances and ideas of the times. The narration is at times tedious as well. You get the idea that you are in a college lecture hall rather than listening to the reading of a book. Bernard Mayes does a good job with the material. Overall, I would recommend this set of volumes to anyone who is interested in the hisory of the world. Others will find this material tedious and boring at times. My advice? Give a listen and stick with this. You might find out some things that you didn't know and might find this history as extremely interesting as I have.

Not meaning to sound so general, it was better than some, but not as good as some others I have listened to. Pretty much middle of the road.

Not really. This is just another book in the Bob Swagger series. I agree with other reviewers in that Hunter should just let Bob retire and either use another character or bring a new one on board.

At one time, I would read just about any book that expostulated theories about the Kennedy assassination. Stephen King's book "11-22-63" was an interesting take on that story. But, like others, I have had my fill. I listened to this book because it was in the Bob Swagger series. Others have been better and this one was way too long. Hunter writes great action books, but I think he could have used another storyline. Otherwise I cannot say I did not enjoy it because I did. Hopefully the next one will be a tad bit better.

Since I have been listening to mostly classics lately, I will answer this by saying in the top 20 at least. Other reviewers have said that they couldn't get into the story. It was not the case for me. I have enjoyed every single moment of this book. (Yes, even with George Hagan's mistakes). I bought this book a long time ago and finally got around to listening to it. And I have enjoyed it thoroughly.

I listened to Nicholas Nickleby and enjoyed that performance. This one compares to it equally.

This was Charles Dickens first attempt at an historical novel years before he did "A Tale Of Two Cities." Not knowing much about the Gordon Riots, I have learned a lot about them just from listening to this book. I would say Mr. Dickens did a good job on this book and I could see how this helped prepare him for "A Tale Of Two Cities" later on in his writing career.

Any performance of a Dickens book is better than the print version because it gives personality to the work.

Oliver Twist because of the depiction of society of the time.

Possibly, but a Dickens book is better savored a little at a time.

This is the longest reading in time of all the readings of this work available on audible. I believe a person can make a work move along without being overly slow. Don't get me wrong, Patrick Tull is an outstanding narrator. But some readers can even be better than others on some works. Otherwise, outstanding performance of this classic work by Dickens.

It ranks as a classic among classics. This was the finest book to come out of the Russian classic literature era.

I believe this book stands on its own and I would be hard pressed to compare another one to it.

This is a book that is so big, I just would not deign to tackle it as a sit down and read book. That is the main reason I bought this version. Very interesting classic. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys classic literature.

I loved the more modern translation of this timeless classic by Victor Hugo. It is the most listenable reading of a classic I have listened to yet.

I probably would have enjoyed this book even better if it was not for the diatribes and digressions that Hugo went into in parts of the novel. It is kind of like taking a sponge and wringing all the liquid out of it. Otherwise, I enjoyed this classic immensely. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of the classics. Once again, a masterful performance by George Guidall. It is always a joy to have a good translator as well as a good reader for a work such as this.

Nick Sullivan's interpretation of the characters translates into the most interesting and entertaining listen I have had in quite a while.

The Wall Street Kid Strikes!

This is an autobiography well worth the wait. Barbara has always been one of my favorite actresses and this book does not disappoint! She was always a natural for the field she went into and this book shows that, even down to the personal little giggles and inflections Barbara puts into her own narration. I grew up on Jeannie and enjoyed every episode that aired. The behind-the-scenes look that she gives us into the making of that series only enhances the experience for me, even after all these years. I couldn't think of a better reader for Barbara's book than the lady herself. This was a great listen and worth the credit spent on it.

This is a long and sometimes tedious book to get through the descriptive sections. I can't say I agree with Ms. Burr on giving Ayla an accent, especially since this is the only book she gave one to Ayla. Regardless of the accent, the tediousness, and whatever other faults listeners might find with the book, this was, for me, nevertheless worth the wait, I have enjoyed this series from book one. I also enjoyed this one. This book and series, like others, may not be for everyone. But for those that do try it, they may be drawn into Ayla's world like I was. This is escapism at its best, Thanks to Mrs, Auel for one of the most enjoyable series I have ever read.

A great book read by a great woman. I am glad that Cain brought her to the forefront. I don't care what they say about Sarah Palin. This woman cares about America and our basic values. This is a credit well spent. Thank you, Sarah! Great book!

Great first novel from this author. I listened to this one back in '92 when it first came out and decided to listen to it again. I liked it then and still like it now. Yes, there is sex, violence, and all that comes with it, but what novel doesn't have that nowadays? This was one of the novels I couldn't stop listening to thanks to the excellent narration by David Collacci. All in all, I believe this one is worth using a credit on. Don't plan on stopping very long though if you have to leave for a break. This one is that good. A great legal thriller. This one is as good as they get.
