  • The Lion's Lady

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 26 mins)
    • By Julie Garwood
    • Narrated By Susan Duerden
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Christina Bennett had taken London society by storm. The ravishing beauty guarded the secret of her mysterious past until the night Lyon, Marquis of Lyonwood, stole a searching, sensuous kiss. An arrogant nobleman with a pirate's passions, he tasted the wildfire smoldering beneath Christina's cool charm and swore to possess her.... But the feisty and defiant Christina would not be so easily conquered. Mistress of her heart and of her fortune, she resisted Lyon's sensuous caresses.

~~ DARA ~~ says: "I loved everything about this book!"
"The narrator ruined a wonderful book!!"

I have yet to find a Julie Garwood historical novel that isn't great. The Secret and Lion's Lady are two of my favorites. Both books are funny and interesting right up until the last word.

Unfortunately, the narrator ruined both books for me. Her rushed, sing song reading of the narrative is so irritating that your mind shuts out the book and your temper takes over, which is the last thing anyone needs when driving! I find I have to listen to both book in spurts of about 15 minutes, which is a real bother if I am listening to it while doing housework or driving on a long trip.

I'm hoping that the publisher will have a do over, as another reader suggested, on both of these books. I don't know if it was the director who "directed" Ms. Duerden to hurry through the narrative and get it out of the way, or if Ms. Duerden has ruined every book she has narrated by this irritating style. Which ever it is, I hope the audio producer will correct this mistake and prevent it from ruining any more of Julie Garwood's books. I have waited a long time for someone to publish these great books in audio form and hope to purchase every single one. But if Ms. Duerden is the narrator on anymore of Ms. Garwood's books, or any other audio book for that matter, I will skip the purchase!

  • The Age of Miracles: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By Karen Thompson Walker
    • Narrated By Emily Janice Card
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

On a seemingly ordinary Saturday in a California suburb, Julia and her family awake to discover, along with the rest of the world, that the rotation of the earth has suddenly begun to slow. The days and nights grow longer and longer, gravity is affected, the environment is thrown into disarray. Yet as she struggles to navigate an ever-shifting landscape, Julia is also coping with the normal disasters of everyday life.

Karen says: "Not sure I can measure up..."
    "Worst book ever written"
What would have made The Age of Miracles better?

A little happiness anywhere in the story. This book was so depressing it got boring very quickly. It is only the second or third book I have not been able to make myself finish.

What was most disappointing about Karen Thompson Walker’s story?

    It was boring.

Would you be willing to try another one of Emily Janice Card’s performances?

It was not her performance that was at fault. It was the material she was reading.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Age of Miracles?

I would have cut the whole book.

    Any additional comments?

Most good authors can take any subject and make it interesting. This book was so boring, it couldn't hold my interest. The Characters are flat and boring, the story is boring. The title of this book should be, "Depressing."

  • Pursuit of Honor: Mitch Rapp Series

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By Vince Flynn
    • Narrated By George Guidall
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The action begins six days after a series of explosions devastated Washington, D.C., targeting the National Counterterrorism Center and killing 185 people, including public officials and CIA employees. It was a bizarre act of extreme violence that called for extreme measures on the part of elite counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp and his trusted team member, Mike Nash.

Jason J Preston says: "Another Outstandung Vince Flynn Book"
    "Ahhhhhhhhhh! Vince Flynn"

Whenever Vince Flynn comes out with a new book, I always end up taking the next day off work because I can't put the darn thing down! He needs to make his books come out on Fridays! This one is worth the loss of sleep.
