Charles Frazier puts his remarkable gifts in the service of a lean, taut narrative while losing none of the transcendent prose, virtuosic storytelling, and insight into human nature that have made him one of the most beloved and celebrated authors in the world. Now, with his brilliant portrait of Luce, a young woman who inherits her murdered sister’s troubled twins, Frazier has created his most memorable heroine. Before the children, Luce was content with the reimbursements of the rich Appalachian landscape....

Great characters, plot and setting. Wouldn't be surprised if this novel makes it to the "silver screen" very soon.

This book could have been two separate novels. I lost interest in the main story after hours of nonstop backstory, which could have been a novel on its own.

A New York Times best-selling author of both fiction and nonfiction, Anne Lamott was also the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. As much a guide to writing as an exploration of the emotional challenges of being a writer, Bird by Bird offers a candid and often humorous look at how to tackle these varied obstacles.

This book contains little usable advice about writing. The author seems angry and spends too much time ranting and degrading those that don't agree with her.

Write It Forward is a one-of-a-kind book focusing on you, the author. In Write It Forward, Bob Mayer applies the time-tested strategies of the Green Berets to the world of being a successful author. He has taught thousands of writers over the years, but this new and innovative program probes deeper than words on the page. It is designed to teach writers how to think, plan and become the future best-sellers of the new age of publishing.

I can't believe a publisher would allow something as bad as this to be released. I've heard computer-generated voice that sounded better than this. I struggled to get through the introduction. Wasted credit.

Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains. Rex was a charismatic, brilliant man who, when sober, captured his children's imagination. Rose Mary painted and wrote and couldn't stand the responsibility of providing for her family; she called herself an "excitement addict."

It's refreshing to find a book that contains no underlying political message. It takes a lot of courage to write such a book.

Here is a new collector's edition of this modern classic as you have never heard it before, read by Natalie Goldberg herself, and then infused with her most personal reflections about this "magic manual" for all writers. Try these ingenious, Zen-based exercises to expand your writing skills ¿ or just for fun.

I can tolerate a bad narration when the author has something useful to say, but this audio book failed on both accounts.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Suzanne says: "The scare is in the human nature under stress."
"could the well be running dry?"
    Overall

If this book is a model of what the author writes in the future, it will be my last. Laced with almost pornographic language, I had to turn the volume down when someone walked within hearing distance. I made it through the 3rd volume and finally deleted it from my player. Even without the bad language, it reads like it was written by someone who is paid by the word.
