The correct narrator.
Pretty much all of it.
Um... all of it?
Yes indeed. Anger, sadness, huge disappointment, frustration, irritation, regret. The story was great, but the "performance" was hugely disappointing, etc.
Jennifer Van Dyck isn't perfect, I disagree some with of her pronunciation, but her voices ARE the characters. The switch to Angela Dawe can be compared directly to let's say... if during the middle of a season of Seinfeld, they had changed ALL of the cast to different people, all with different accents, who all had the same names, but were pronounced differently. The locations were all changed, but called the same things. None of the new cast had ever watched any of the prior episodes of the series, they simply showed up and recited their lines using their own interpretations of how the characters should be. The character personalities were all different, with only the writers staying the same. The series would be un-fucking-watchable.
No offense to Angela Dawe personally, but this was terrible. I will be returning this book for certain and hope for two things:
1. Jennifer Van Dyck reads the next book and all following books
2. This book is redone with Jennifer Van Dyck reading
I thought I'd give this a try despite the very accurate reviews stating essentially the same things mine does, which was a mistake. I should have bought the paper version.
Unless this book is re-recorded with Jennifer Van Dyck, don't buy the audio version, buy the paper version.
If the next book is read by Angela Dawe I will certainly not buy the audio book and will be forced to buy the paper version.
If you agree with my review, please contact Elizabeth Moon and/or her publisher and beg for a remake of this book, and return this audiobook version to Audible.
