"Amusing"
While this book is not profound and it seldom takes seriously alternate arguments, it is definitely entertaining and will make you see teachers and doughnuts in a different light. It's mantra, "ethics is about how people should be, economics [numbers] about how they are," does make some sense after listening to the book. It is well read. Great for the road.
"More depressing than inspiring..."
Perhaps because of the tone of the narrator I did not find this story about finding one's vocation especially compelling or helpful.
"Great fun!"
This was a completely unexpected treat, since I knew nothing about this series. The book is deliciously goofy and the reading is stellar.
"A masterpiece"
These stories were extremely moving for me, and most admirable. Especially the first story is haunting and the narration is spectacular, more than masterful.
"An entertaining way to learn history"
The rebellion of the Spanish people of Madrid against the Napoleonic invasion is well told by Gald??s. Macu G??mez has a great voice, but she only reads the text very seldom becoming a real narrator. A further problem is that she is a woman reading the first-person narration of a sixteen-year-old boy.
"Did not keep my attention"
I found this novel confusing, uninteresting, and plodding. It tries to create a romantic story in addition to the crime story itself, but that also could not make me care about the characters. I am usually entertained by most novels in this category (police, detective, crime, legal issues), but I had to struggle to get to the end of this one.
"Trivia"
An entertaining story about Christ's shroud and the Templars, absolutely predictable, psychologically clumsy, and ultimately unremarkable. The reader's voice did not captivate me, and her imitation of Italians speaking English with an Italian accent (as they speak Italian, their native language) is funny.
"Unconvincing"
Well read, but the plot is completely unbelievable to the point of being absurd. For me, it was a waste of time, even if I admire other Ishiguro novels.
"Unbelievable fun"
This book is superbly read and fun to listen, but the plot is unbelievable. The last part, which takes place in a London court, is especially entertaining and hard to believe.
"Absolutely superb"
The novel is, of course, entertaining, insightful, timely and engaging. The reading is probably the best I have heard in an audio book. This is a real winner.
