Allon is recovering from his grueling showdown with a Palestinian master terrorist, when terrorism comes to find him once again. An al-Qaeda suspect is killed in London, and photographs are found on his computer - photographs that lead Israeli intelligence to suspect that al-Qaeda is planning one of its most audacious attacks ever, straight at the heart of the Vatican.

    Overall

I enjoyed this book, but felt it borrowed too heavily from John Le Carre's The Little Drummer Girl in tone, plot and style.

In The Widow Clicquot, Tilar J. Mazzeo brings to life for the first time the fascinating woman behind the iconic yellow label: Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin. A young witness to the dramatic events of the French Revolution and a new widow during the chaotic years of the Napoleonic Wars, Barbe-Nicole defied convention by assuming---after her husband's death---the reins of the fledgling wine business they had nurtured.

I am about to tear out my hair because this audiobook is so poorly written and narrated. The author's method of "imagining" what her characters "must have" seen, thought, and felt is very distracting and certainly undermines her credibility. Similarly, she goes over the same information many times...WHY?? The narrator, Susan Erickson, makes the experience of listening to the book even more painful by coming to a full stop before each French name or word and then s l o w l y pronouncing it phonetically. AWFUL! TERRIBLE!

Towner Whitney, the self-confessed unreliable narrator of The Lace Reader, hails from a family of Salem women who can read the future in the patterns in lace, and who have guarded a history of secrets going back generations. But the disappearance of two women brings Towner home to Salem and the truth about the death of her twin sister to light.

I had hoped to be entertained by this book, but found it to be tedious, and gave up about half-way through. The plot and the characters were thin and uninteresting. Two thumbs down.

I love this book, but why an American narrator was chosen for this recording eludes me!! Don't buy the audio version, but definitely read the book!

  • A Wizard of Earthsea

This first volume of the Earthsea Cycle is an adventure story, a Quest, a tale of a proud, incautious boy who meddles too early with the Dark. It is a pure fantasy telling about a real thing: a boy coming into his power and his manhood...coming of age.

    Wyonia says: "Great Book...Frantic Narrator"
    "Narrator TOTALLY ruins the book"

It was very painful to force myself to listen to this TERRIBLE narrator. Audible REALLY needs to get a different version of this for fans of the series. The worst reader I've ever experienced, and I have over 300 books in my audible library!

    "Very Boring, Awful Narrator"
    Overall

I am a frequent audible listener, and am not overly picky, but I feel I must warn people away from this terrible selection. I found the narrator's voice to be flat and extremely inflectionless - is was almost as if she was told to read the story with as little energy as possible. Furthermore, the story is just plain boring. The plot plods along, the characters are not developed, and besides a few chapters about how girls' feet were bound, not even really informative. Let the buyer beware.

Twenty years ago, Fiona May Airie, pilot James Airie's little sister, disappeared. You might say it caused his family to unravel. It would happen to any family. But now James, a diagnosed schizophrenic, thinks all the unraveling is finally over, and it's time to try and ravel everything back...

This was just awful, completely unbelievable, gratuitously violent, inaccurate to the max in its descriptions of how psychologists work (I know because I AM a psychologist). I am not squeemish but this was the first audio book I've listened to that I ended up quitting before it was over.
