Life is certainly full of surprises. First my husband dumps me for a D-cup Hooters waitress. Second, I buy a tumbledown 1920s Tudor with the oddest (and most ironic) living room arch. Yup, it's heart-shaped. Then, just as I'm starting to adjust, my perky new neighbor comes calling with an incredible announcement. My home is one of four houses built by the original members of the Woodlawn Avenue Bridge Club. I'm now the "Queen of Hearts"!

It really wasn't what I expected. It was a slow start and didn't hold my interest

While Nettie is shopping at the market, her cart collides with another cart pushed by a nice-looking man. A week goes by, and she runs into the same man at the post office. They get acquainted and learn their deceased spouses are buried in the same cemetery. They also learn from each other that their children want them to sell their houses and move in with them.

This story about two older people who meet and fall in love is full of syrup and warm fuzzies. I loved that this book was about mature people. They fall in love too, but they were flat characters and had no depth or spice. If I had bought the book it would have been read in less than an hour.

A secret government unit is formed under the oversight of Adam Harrison, famed paranormal investigator. The case: In a historic mansion in New Orleans’ French Quarter, a senator’s wife falls to her death from a balcony. Most think she jumped, distraught over the loss of her young son. Some say she was pushed. And yet others believe she was beckoned by the ghostly spirits that inhabit the house - once the site of a serial killer’s grisly work.

I found the story to be a bit slow to listen to. I am a fast reader and this forces me to have to listen to every detail, some not necessary. I enjoyed the story line and the characters. They were well developed and the reader gave a accurate change to each character.

The incomparable master of the legal thriller takes us deeper into the labyrinth that is the American justice system, always drawing us in with an irresistible hook, pulling the thread of tension tighter and tighter, and then knocking us out with a conclusion that's never "by the book". Maybe that's why, after more than 20 years of consecutive number-one New York Times best sellers, a new novel by America's favorite storyteller is still a major publishing event.

The story progresses as is JG's style. I enjoyed the lead into the action and the sympathy that the reader begins to feel for the main characters. The reader wants them to succeed in spite of the personalities, conflicts and the great obstacles. A great read and well worth the time taken to listen to the length.
