Opening with the young Clark Kent on a date, this novel takes an entirely fresh approach to the emergence of his superpowers and the start of his newspaper career, following him from rural 1930s Kansas across America to Hollywood in its golden age and then to New York City. He meets a worldly Lois Lane and conniving political boss Lex Luthor, and begins his battles against criminal masterminds, mad scientists, and super villains inspired by fascists.

    Shazam! (Sorry wrong hero)
Interesting perspective, realistic but a trifle slow.
Clark is a simple person but raised on a farm in the depression, would be accurate but having a superior intellect and an alien mind, maybe demonstrated more sophistication.
Lois is written like she is a modern woman but it was refreshing that she was more realistic and not a cliche virgin. A meaner/uncleaner Rosaline Russell.
Could of used a little more action overall but never-the-less enjoyed it.

For a 2,000-year-old Druid, Atticus O’Sullivan is a pretty fast runner. Good thing, because he’s being chased by not one but two goddesses of the hunt - Artemis and Diana - for messing with one of their own. Dodging their slings and arrows, Atticus, Granuaile, and his wolfhound Oberon are making a mad dash across modern-day Europe to seek help from a friend of the Tuatha Dé Danann. His usual magical option of shifting planes is blocked, so instead of playing hide-and-seek, the game plan is...run like hell.

I'm not a literary critic (although I do speak a little 'nasally', but I find Mr. Hearne's contiuing books more enjoyable one after the other.

Interesting characters and recently, I even started liking the dog.

I almost forgot to mention that Mr. Daniels is terrific in the reading.

I'll be buying the next in the series.

    Thank you.

A not-so-friendly wager between the rival companies turns into a race to see who can bag the mysterious creature first. Only there is far more to this particular case than meets the eye, and as Hunters fall prey to their worst nightmares, Owen Zastava Pitt and the staff of Monster Hunter International have to stop an ancient god from turning Sin City into a literal hell on earth.

I'm not a gun nut or SCTV's 'Blew up real good!" type of red neck but I'm always drawn back to this storyline.
My brother put me on to these and the first one was just okay. But as each book comes out, it gets better!
I'm glad that I stuck it out and to see other characters develop and take the spot light as in real life!
The performance was terrific. I 'see' each character in my minds eye and and know who is saying what.
I'm not going to run out to buy a gun but will get the next story.

    Story

I like the story and better the performance.

The main character is sort of believable with all his faults.
Having to rely his 'mother' figure to take up the slack of being a absent dad and getting into his head on learning how the bad guy thinks.

My main objection is the pschology that is used.

I know we've come a long way in behavioual pschycology but this story leans on quite a bit on this hypno-therapy which years later we found to be a false science.

Many people, such as men in custody cases, have lost their rights in seeing their children due to these 'repressed memories' which we now know to be fantasies of the patient.
Some of these people have even been imprisoned, sued or financially wiped out due to this type of therapy

Thankfully a few years later, they admitted that this procedure is not reliable and is not permissable in court.

It would be nice to see this book revised.

The New York Times best-selling author of the Nightside series, Simon R. Green has won widespread acclaim and an immense following for his Secret Histories novels featuring Eddie “Shaman Bond” Drood. In Green’s action-packed riff on everyone’s favorite superspy, Eddie once again finds himself at the center of supernatural intrigue. And even though protecting humanity from the forces of darkness is nothing new to Eddie, he now faces a threat that’s leaving him both shaken and stirred.

    Sorry about that chief!
I really enjoy listening to this series. I'm a fan of Mr. Green and I think this series is the best so far.
The banter between Molly and Eddie is enjoyable but sometimes its a little adolescent (one love and all that delusion).

Even though it gets kind of irritating, I would still buy the next audible book.

Thanks for making my evenings more enjoyable and light hearted!

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

I studied Lincoln years ago and is one of my heroes.
Quirky title and concept caught my interest but it seemed to go downhill after a few chapters.

I wouldn't have bought it if it was titled of 'Phil, Vampire Killer' but was curious how the author would paint himself out of a corner since we all knew what happen to Lincoln in the end.

Definitely comic-like writing due to the adolescent in the black and white perspective.
Did the author inject his own personal parental issues on Lincoln's fallible father whereas Lincoln's wife was seriously mentally unstable which was okay?

Anyways, I was interested in the movie but now going to avoid.

Performance was very good but the plot was weak which over time fell apart.

    Too bad, interesting idea.

He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

I've listened to the other stories by Mr. Correla (monster hunter series) and I felt that this was a better story due to the original perspective and character study of the pulp superhero.
The performance by Mr. Pinchot is terrific. The range of voices ranging from the manly hero 'Sullivan' to the country hick female 'Fay' is believable and easy on the ears.
I'm glad I have this in my library.
Bravo! I'll be looking for the second story.

I'm into realistic superheroes and seen this story recently on sale.

I asked my brother told me about this story and told him that it seemed interesting and liked the sample.
He just finished listening to to the book and was very happy with the writing.

I really liked the maturity of the character development. Mature and realistic. The mainstream heroes is what I also share in perception ranging from patriotic to outright self righteousness.

    Bravo to Mr. Bernhiemer.

I will be looking for the next book!

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, doesn’t care much for witches. Still, he’s about to make nice with the local coven by signing a mutually beneficial nonaggression treaty when suddenly the witch population in modern-day Tempe, Arizona, quadruples overnight. And the new girls are not just bad, they’re badasses with a dark history on the German side of World War II. With a fallen angel feasting on local high school students, a horde of Bacchants blowing in from Vegas, and a dangerously sexy Celtic goddess of fire vying for his attention, Atticus is having trouble scheduling the witch hunt.

Interesting character. Weird that a 2,000+ man acts as mature as a 21 year old.

I liked the tie-in with the Irish wolf hound but did not like the 'Scooby-Doo' dialog. Really grated on my nerves. Inconsistently smart creature but idiotic speech patterns.
My only guess that it was comedic relief. I wasn't laughing.
Thank God that Jim Butcher didn't make Mister Mister talk that way.

A relative wanted me to buy this since I was a Dresden fan (was till Ghost Story) and bought all three books that were on sale. If there is a book four, I think I'll pass.

    All the best!

I've listened to all the books and don't mind the new reader. I'm am disappointed but that's life.

The story line is fine, giving a detailed background on ghosts and death however, there's an after taste of the Catholic dogma giving it a feeling that this is the one true religion.
I guess he never heard of the inquisitions.

I get the feeling that Mr. Butcher is getting tired of writing this series but I've heard that he has agreed to write a couple more.

On a good note, there an in-depth look on the support characters, (Butters is my favourite character) and other characters mature.

I've had discussions over Dresden 's attitude progression as time went on. My concern that he was turning into a 'bully' which bugged me.
My brother who is a bigger fan didn't see that but in this book the writer gets the character to even admit it, so there!

As a fan I would buy the next book and see what happens but I will wait to get it out of my library first. Guelph Public Library rocks!!!

This long-awaited release features Stuart Milligan as Superman, Shelley Thompson as Lois Lane, William Hootkins as Lex Luthor and Bob Sessions as The Batman and was written to celebrate Superman’s 50th birthday. Accused of crimes against humanity, the Last Son of Krypton stands powerless before a court dominated by Lex Luthor - criminal genius turned prosecutor. Has Superman really corrupted our children? Can he justify his continued interference in world affairs?

I've collected a lot of the vintage Superman radio series and this doesn't come close.
Great sound and special effects and vocals.
Terrible writing. The illusion is destroyed by the premise of Lois Lane as Superman's legal representative for various crimes.
    Terribly disappointed.
