  • American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By Chris Kyle, Scott McEwan, Jim DeFelice
    • Narrated By John Pruden
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

    Allen T. says: "Amazing"
"Long shooter comes into the open."
Would you consider the audio edition of American Sniper to be better than the print version?

Did not read print version. I cannot say.

What other book might you compare American Sniper to and why?

Inside Delta Force. Both books focus on specific special forces within the military. Each defines what it takes and what one must do to become a member of an elite unit.

What about John Pruden’s performance did you like?

Did not like the phony Texas accent. Other than that I liked his performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. Too much to digest in one sitting.

  • Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Near-Death Experience and Journey into the Afterlife

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By Eben Alexander
    • Narrated By Eben Alexander
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

On November 10, 2008, Dr. Eben Alexander was driven into coma by a disease so lethal that only 1 in 10,000,000 survive. Seven days later, he awakened with memories of a fantastic odyssey deep into another realm that were more real than this earthly one - memories that included meeting a deceased birth sister he had never known existed. Dr. Alexander deployed all his knowledge as a scientist to find out whether his mind could have played a trick on him. In its shutdown state, there was no way it could have.

    Kelly says: "Compelling"
    "A verifyable truth."
If you could sum up Proof of Heaven in three words, what would they be?

I have had an NDE and an out of body experience involving two horses, full brothers. One spooked and swing a 3" pipe (hitching pole" that broke out of the railroad ties holding it. That was one. I experienced peace and love beyond my ability to describe.
The out of body experience occurred approximately six weeks later as I rode a full brother to the horse that whanged me with the pipe. The author retelling his friend's story about his dying mother having a conversation with her mother who had been dead 65 years, brought back an example I witnessed happening to my own mother. My mother was dying. It was maybe 1AM when I walked into the Hospice room. She could not see me because of the light behind my back, but she could see her friends. Friends waiting for her to cross over to their side. I knew what was going on as she scanned the far wall of her room. Every few seconds she would stop, look and a magnificent smile would cross light her face. Accessing the benevolent powers of the universe is indeed possible. One small sentence I have read hundreds of times, "That we (Psychiatrists) are not well equipped to apply the powers of good that lie outside our synthetic knowledge". (Alcoholics Anonymous pg xxvii).I have applies my synthetic knowledge to access these powers, as God would have me do.Off to Amazon and Hemi Sync..

  • Assegai

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 58 mins)
    • By Wilbur Smith
    • Narrated By Simon Vance
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

It is 1913 and Leon Courtney, an ex-soldier turned professional hunter in British East Africa, guides the rich and powerful from America and Europe on big-game safaris. Leon had never sought fame, but an expedition alongside U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt has made him one of the most sought-after hunters on the continent. Soon, he finds that with celebrity comes not just wealth - but also danger.

Jim says: "Entertaining but I'm not much for sport hunting"
"Found the Beginning of the Courtney Family"
What did you love best about Assegai?

What I appreciated the most was they the story way laid out. There was a sequence, and a cadence that ran true throughout.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mamma. I have a soft spot in my heart for those who are gifted with Mystic abilities.
I became attached to Percy. He found what he had always sough in Leon's strenghts and weaknesses,t and he gave Leon what Leon had always sought.

Have you listened to any of Simon Vance’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, Those In Peril. Excellent with his language skills. Voice has a timbre that holds one's attention.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The best is yet to come.

    Any additional comments?

    Fun stuff.
