I could hardly wait to listent to this book every day. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I wanted to finish it, yet I didn't want it to end. I will buy more of the series. Great story, great narrator.
In some ways it was similiar to Harry Potter, only darker, with witches and bogarts and "the dark". Good versus evil. A young hero against the dark forces.
He certainly made each character their own. He was amazing at individualizing each character's voice, they truly came alive
Beware of the dark!
I loved this book. I am going to go back to the beginning and listen to the entire series. I find it hard to believe that this book is a "teen" book. It has some pretty scary, bloody stuff in it.
I could get into this book. It was slow and tedious, in fact I quit before the 5th chapter.
Couldn't put down
There were several. The one that drew me to the book was the opening scene where Cass, the heroine, finds Rick, the hero, on her 3rd floor balcony.
She was fabulous! The narrator will make or break a story and Anne Day-Jones certainly made the listen well worth it.
Remix was a fun listen, great characters and great narration
The story was slow, the narrator was slow. The author was repetitive and the story never really got going. I struggled through thinking it would get better, but it never did. I finally gave up and started another book. I have the next two books in the series and plan on returning them.
He could have sped up the story--it seemed to drag on and on, the action was few and far between--although he did have some great action scenes, but In between, it was tedious. The narrator had some great voices, but he read at a monotone speed.
There were a few good action scenes.
I had high hopes for this series and I am quite disappointed that it didn't live up to my expectations.
Never read the print. Of course I love the narrators. Each did a fabulous job.
Not always, sometimes it really captured me and I couldn't wait to continue the story and sometimes it just went along.
I found this book intriguing and tedious at the same time.
Intriguing, captivating, thrilling
All the characters were fantastic! I couldn't pick out a favorite. Lynn Redgrave was "spot on" for each character, but I think I could probably listen to her narrate the phone book!
I was captivated by the story and couldn't wait to see what adventure would befall them next.
Lynn Redgrave is fabulous as a narrator. I hope she does more readings. I really enjoyed this book and hope that the sequels are just as good. I wouldn't recommended to very young people, the bad guys are REALLY bad.
Delightful, entertaining, captivating
There was so much action, it's hard to say which moment stood out the most. The beginning of the story captured me and wouldn't let me go!
Everything. I think he did a splendid job on creating a personality for each character.
Hang on to your seat, it's going to be a fast, fun ride!
I have read all the books in the Riyria series and I have loved every one of them. I was so caught up in the characters, their lives, the adventure that I actually started listening to them in bed-- you could say I became a little obsessive about them. I hated to see this series come to an end.
When I started this book, I didn't think I would like it, but then POW! It kept me on the edge of my seat right up until the end. I couldn't wait to get in my car and listen. I thought this would make a great "action" film. Some was a little far-fetched, but who cares, it was fast and furious. The narrator did a fabulous job of creating individual characters. Would recomend to anyone who likes action/adventure/no-stop thrills.
The lead, Jake. He was a very well strong, clever and had a lot of hero qualities.
He did a great job. You knew who was who. He did a great job on accents, he made women sound like women, nothing falsetto.
Not an extreme reaction, but I enjoyed it so much I getting the 2nd and 3rd book in the series.
Great thriller, not a lot of foul language, or sex, there was a lot of violence, but not graphic. Would listen to more by this author with the same narrator.
Loved this book! This is at the top of my list in my library. The action never stopped. You really wonder how Charlie could get himself into so much trouble. Of course it helps to have such a fabulous narrator. Simon Vance makes each character very individual, there is no doubt on who's who in the story. It was fun all around, a lot of humor and action. I am going to start at the first of this series!
I could hardly wait to see what happened to next to Charlie. The story just kept unfolding and unfolding. Brilliant!
This was an extremely fun listen. I would highly recommend it. Another thing that made this book so appealing to me was that it wasn't full of graphic violence, sex or foul language. Throughly enjoyed myself!
Tim Curry is such a great performer. He put the "wow" in a Christmas classic! Would recommend this to all ages. I don't think I really knew the classic tale until I heard Mr. Curry narrate.
The soul of Ebenezer.
This is a great listen for everyone. I highly recommend it!
