    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 33 mins)
    • By John Farris
    • Narrated By Joey Collins

New York Times best-selling author John Farris pens a once-in-a-lifetime thriller that ensnares listeners in an addictive web of intrigue and chilling terror. When nurse Mally Shaw is found dead in Evening Shade, Tennessee, 14-year-old mute Alex Gambier is devastated. He misses the tenderhearted young woman who befriended him. And he is furious with her killer. But how will his silent witnessing of her unspeakable death affect him - and others?

Debra says: "Murder with a supernatural twist!"

I really enjoyed this story. The characters were interesting and the plot progressed well. The reader did a good job with the character voices. It seems that I keep getting books that need a sequel. I want to know what happens next.

Media magnate Alexander McIntyre decides to solve the mystery, and gathers a team of experts to mount an expedition to the island. What disappointed you about The Colony?

Boring. It started out with such great potential. I was so disappointed. Good reader though.

  • Lucifer's Hammer

    • UNABRIDGED (24 hrs and 32 mins)
    • By Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle
    • Narrated By Marc Vietor
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The gigantic comet had slammed into Earth, forging earthquakes a thousand times too powerful to measure on the Richter scale, tidal waves thousands of feet high. Cities were turned into oceans; oceans turned into steam. It was the beginning of a new Ice Age and the end of civilization. But for the terrified men and women chance had saved, it was also the dawn of a new struggle for survival--a struggle more dangerous and challenging than any they had ever known....

DJM says: "Good story from front to back"
    "Oh sooooo boring."
What disappointed you about Lucifer's Hammer?

So slow and boring. Little action. Lame dialogue.

Would you ever listen to anything by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle again?

Not if it was written in the 70s or 80s. I think that was the main issue. I didn't look at the publication date.

What aspect of Marc Vietor’s performance would you have changed?

His performance was okay. Some of the voices were strange.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Lucifer's Hammer?

    The comet details.

    Any additional comments?

Book is just out of date.

  • Odd Hours

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 33 mins)
    • By Dean Koontz
    • Narrated By David Aaron Baker
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The legend began in the obscure little town of Pico Mundo. A fry cook named Odd was rumored to have the extraordinary ability to communicate with the dead. Through tragedy and triumph, exhilaration and heartbreak, word of Odd Thomas' gifts filtered far beyond Pico Mundo, attracting unforgettable new friends - and enemies of implacable evil.

    Cynthia says: "Odd Hours-Disappointing"
    "Skip it"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I wouldn't recommend it for anyone. If you know Odd then you can skip this one. If you don't know Odd don't start here.

Has Odd Hours turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No way

Would you be willing to try another one of David Aaron Baker’s performances?

What character would you cut from Odd Hours?

    Any additional comments?

This didn't add to the Odd story much for me. Ooooohhh sooooo wordy. I listened at 1 1/2 speed. Could have been a short story. New characters introduced that I liked but I don't think I would have missed much had I skipped this installment.

  • Patient Zero: The Joe Ledger Novels, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 45 mins)
    • By Jonathan Maberry
    • Narrated By Ray Porter
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there’s either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills - and there’s nothing wrong with Joe Ledger’s skills. And that’s both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because he’s a Baltimore detective who has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new task force created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can’t handle....

Kim Venatries says: "Yes! It IS that good. Five stars and more."
    "loved it"

Just finished today, couldn't get home fast enough to report in. This is a great read. I can't wait to down load the second book. This narrator is in my top favs list.

  • Day By Day Armageddon

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 38 mins)
    • By J L Bourne
    • Narrated By Jay Snyder
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In your hands is the handwritten journal depicting one man's struggle for survival. Trapped in the midst of global disaster, he must make decisions; choices that ultimately mean life, or the eternal curse to walk as one of them. Enter, if you will, into the world of the undead.

rob haight says: "Great book! More more more!!"
    "A DIARY?"

Really? A diary? I did not think that was a good concept. Come to find out, it was really good. The reader made the difference. I loved the story too. I have just downloaded the next installment.

  • Under the Dome: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (34 hrs and 29 mins)
    • By Stephen King
    • Narrated By Raul Esparza
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Suzanne says: "The scare is in the human nature under stress."

I loved this story. A mixture of real town drama and Stephen King weirdness. I loved the ending and the message. Yup, there was one. I would like to find out what happens next........

  • The Strain

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 36 mins)
    • By Guillermo Del Toro, Chuck Hogan
    • Narrated By Ron Perlman

The visionary creator of the Academy Award-winning Pan's Labyrinth and a Hammett Award-winning author bring their imaginations to this bold, epic novel about a horrifying battle between man and vampire that threatens all humanity. It is the first installment in a thrilling trilogy and an extraordinary international publishing event.

    Flavius says: "Hokey But Fun"
    "Great listen"

I loved this book. It is a keeper. I didn't find it slow at all. The narration was very well done. I really enjoyed the dialogue and the description by the authors. The only thing that was strange to me was the musical "interlude" between chapters. Can't wait for Part 2.

  • Dark Places: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 43 mins)
    • By Gillian Flynn
    • Narrated By Rebecca Lowman, Cassandra Campbell, Mark Deakins, and others

Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

Glenda Jeffers says: "Riveting but brutal"
    "Great book"

I had it figured out, I didn't have it figured out. Then I sort of had it. Then it twisted again. This was a great story and the writer is really good. I would recommend this to anyone who loves mystery/thrillers. More please!

He's Hollywood's most dazzling star, who is worshiped by millions and hated by one twisted soul. His existence is under siege as a series of terrifying, enigmatic "messages" breaches the security systems of his Bel Air estate. The boxes arrive mysteriously, one by one, at Channing Manheim's compound. Manheim's security chief, ex-cop Ethan Truman, is used to looking beneath the surface of things. But until he entered the orbit of a Hollywood icon, he had no idea just how slippery reality could be.
