Would you listen to Myth Conceptions again? Why?

Yes - I read these books when I was younger and have enjoyed listening to them.

    Any additional comments?

Very much a lead-on from the first book. If you liked the first book you'll like the second.

In Southeast Minnesota, down on the Mississippi, a school board meeting is coming to an end. The board chairman announces that the rest of the meeting will be closed, due to personnel issues. "Issues" is correct. The proposal up for a vote before them is whether to authorize the killing of a local reporter. The vote is four to one in favor.

This book follows well in the series. I wish the description was actually a bit less, because I kept waiting for the main plot to start. A really good Virgil Flowers book and exactly what I've come to expect.

Across the country women are being murdered by a killer who leaves no evidence, no fatal wounds, no signs of struggle, and no clues to a motive. They are, truly, perfect crimes. In fact, the only thing that links the victims is the man they all knew: Jack Reacher.

I thought this was an excellent book. The thrill of the detective hunt was excellent, even if the foreshadowing of the murderer was too obvious. I wasn't surprised by the big reveal. Jack Reacher doesn't get physical in the book at all, which is unusual and different than the first 3 Jack Reacher books.

At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, Ready Player One is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.

I expected this book to be nerdier than it was. It has many references to movies and music as well as video games. The book is very well done and really does immerse you in the world (or worlds). It goes a bit too much into teen angst at times, but ultimately the relationships are very well written.

A good book, but surprisingly not a comedy. The last chapter is live and the audience laughed regularly (granted I agree the last chapter was funnier than previous chapters). I enjoy Parks and Rec. and did enjoy the book. It just wasn't a laugh out loud comedy like I expected.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?"

Just an amazing book. I was worried the issue he would face would seem 'made up' or 'fake', but not at all. I think this book is likely better for the scientist types, but could be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys a thriller. I couldn't put this book down and kept wanting to listen to more.

This book really is another great book in the myth series. It just didn't seem to have the fast pace action of the other books. This book feels a bit more like a teenager finding their way book, rather than the usual quirky action books of the past. It still has the "how is he going to get out of this one" overall tone, but it just feels a bit flat compared to the other myth books. I'll definitely keep reading the series though.

Stephen R. Covey's book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, has been a top seller for the simple reason that it ignores trends and pop psychology for proven principles of fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity. Celebrating its 15th year of helping people solve personal and professional problems, this special anniversary edition includes a new forward and afterword written by Covey that explore whether the 7 Habits are still relevant.

I was worried with some of the other reviews complaining about the author's pronunciation and speed. However, after listening to the book I found his pace was actually very good for the material (and yes, probably a bit slower than most audio books, but not by much), and I really didn't notice any pronunciation issues.

Overall, the book is excellent. Was it a life changing book? Probably not, but still an incredibly good book that really does cause you to look at your own life differently and others' opinions differently.

I would strongly recommend this book to others.

Start at the beginning, in Another Fine Myth, as Skeeve, an apprentice wizard, meets the demon Aahz. Follow them in Myth Conceptions, as Skeeve and Aahz test their talent when they decide to take on an entire army themselves and continue on in Myth Directions. Then Skeeve finds himself alone with his own apprentice applicant, a king, in Hit or Myth and must deal with a medieval Mob!

What other book might you compare Another Fine Myth to and why?

I don't know of any book that is similar to the "Myth" series.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes - it's a fairly short book with very good pacing. Good action with a wonderful dose of dry humor.

    Any additional comments?

I read these books when I was young and wasn't sure I'd enjoy them as an adult. They are as much fun (maybe even more) than I remember. The humor is fun, the modern references really add to the "dimensionality" of the book. The reader really did bring the characters from my youth alive.

It used to be that to diagnose an illness, interpret legal documents, analyze foreign policy, or write a newspaper article you needed a human being with specific skills - and maybe an advanced degree or two. These days, high-level tasks are increasingly being handled by algorithms that can do precise work not only with speed but also with nuance. These "bots" started with human programming and logic, but now their reach extends beyond what their creators ever expected.

I think this book could go deeper into the individual cases. It seemed to be a retelling of what mainstream news has already covered about the tech industry. The first parts of the book (the early stock market algorithms) were interesting history with a hint of the technology behind them with the later parts of the book not following history but rather retelling current events (rise of silicon valley's influence). Overall more of a history of computers taking things over similar to the industrial revolution.
