"SO MOTIVATING!!!"
And Funny too! I am a 54 year old woman. I've been working out about 6 days a week .. every week since I was 21....so as the book says I don't look 54. But I have been suffering from burn out the last few years. Over 30 years of going to the gym...can't I catch a break? This book got me excited again. It provided me with reasons to keep going and I loved his naration. I found it well written, funny, and I intend to listen to it again as soon as I finish.
"Incredibly Great"
Absolutely one of the best books I have read. McCarthy's writing style alone just blows me away....so unique and simple. When I was watching the movie 'No country for old men' I did not know it was from one of his books but I kept thinking to myself..."I love the dialogue in this movie"...it is so different...I love the flow of the movie...and then of course when I read the credits...there he was again. Love Love Love this author.
"WOW"
I don't need to go on and on. Just know that this is a MUST read. It is profound on so many levels. Some plot turns took my breath away and some made me cry. Moving and exceptional...what a gift.
"I tried...I really tried..."
But I just couldn't grab hold of this story. The author has a wonderful unique way of writing and I certainly appreciated that, but oh goodness... too elongated for me...at least for now. I lasted 2 hours and had to move on to something more contemporary. I will come back to this book because I realize it is a worth while read. But for now I favor stories that are so compelling I just want to lie in bed, close my eyes, and do nothing else but listen.
"DITO DITO DITO 5 STARS"
I LOVED this book. So simple, so entertaining, so well presented. A read (listen) for all ages and all interests.
"LAUGH RIGHT OUT LOUD"
Absolutely NOT dull and NOT unpredictable. This author is so dry wittingly clever I had to rewind and write down some of his one liners. One of the most 'lighten me up' and 'take away my stress' books I've read in a long time. He appeals to my funny bone as do Al Franken, Anne Lamott and David Sedaris. Goodie, I have another good writer to add to my list.
"YES, YES, YES!"
I could not keep the smile off of my face while listening to this book. The narrator WAS THE BEST. He reminded me of when I was a child and watched the wonderful black and white classics on TV that you just don't see today. This was the most innovative, entertaining, and refreshingly old style listen I have had so far. But the way it lifted my spirit was what impressed me the most.
"I like to finish what I start"
I had to laugh at myself many times for going the distance with these books. I listened to all 3 and liked the last one the best. I was smart to listen while I did other things like data entry and such so I could turn off when it came to the unbelievable self indulgence of her (are you on drugs?) long winded, meandering speeches. No editor would ever let a writer get away with so much unnecessary 'filler' these days...And yet, now that I am through with the ..what? over 60 hours of listening...I really miss her and all her characters. Perhaps it's proof that we can get use to anything if we hear it long enough ...hense the popularity of pop stars today.
I wouldn't have missed the experience for the world but I would suggest destracting yourself until a solid twist in the plot perks your ears to listen. It helps those of us who just MUST finish what they start.
"Do Not Pass GO until you experience this book"
I could not put this down. A triple threat with wonderful original story,Sue Monk Kidd's words and the cherry on top is Jenna Lamia's voice and interpretation. I finished days ago and I still cannot erase the images they so vividly inculcated in my minds imagination. Don't miss this one!
"DON'T MISS THIS READ!"
Oh,my what an incredibly wonderful love story. Fresh, smart, funny & sad all wrapped in one magnificent ORIGINAL package. The narrators were perfect with just the right touch of passion and glibness. Get this book!!! Not for 1 second will you regret it.
