We find our heroin ,under the big top of a struggling circus, board with her mundane life she gives up the maids and a soft bed for the rugged and harsh circus grounds ,were she is tested socially and psychically finding solace in the arms of a sad clown. There is a lot of swearing in this thanks to the very lovable lizard Elsy ,I only mention in case this turns you away from the ever entertaining Miss Fisher, which would be a great pity.
Maybe two stars was a little harsh for story but it was getting so over done towards the end maybe not.
Two things put me of here the repetitiveness of the story the same fell and dialog was getting a bit thin, I always enjoyed and looked forward to Radclyffe's story's in the lesbian short stories audible has but perhaps that's the problem length, filling holes in her story's with sex seances that are not terribly imaginative ,the last few I have read fell like it's a race to get to the end rushed and clunky.
Right if you have decided that Radcyffe is for and you don't care for my opinion that's cool but please beware of this narrator for some reason she takes a sharp breath before every sentence I was amazed she didn't pass out from lack of oxygen I found it very disruptive perhaps you like like that kind of thing but personally I'm done...
It pains me to say this so called second book or as I like to put it the other bit left over from the first installment ,is boring but it lacked very much in the story department which is not what I have come to expect from Radclyffe she usually delivers in spades.
I personally would recommend Hostage Moon By Quinn same story just told better,
There is no denying that the great Radclyffe has bought us a fine character in secret service agent Cameron Roberts ,strong, hot , racked with guilt and fighting the feelings she knows she shouldn't be having for the presidents daughter ,the feisty Blair Powell, the young woman she has been appointed to protect.
This would have been great if it didn't seemed rushed and nothing more than a set up for the sequel which you get a taste of at the end of this book .
Personally I felt short changed it felt like she had to force every cliche in the book ,in the book and once all the boxes where ticked it was sequel time .
She has me and I will read the next installment ,just be aware this book is just a really long prolog .
This unsatisfying tale is told in mostly flash backs as three generations of lesbian lovers is explored ,the story telling itself is poetic and beautiful at times ,and maybe that's enough to recommend this book .Good narration, good story of old values and young enthusiasm, the disappointing thing was that it ends with a wimpier not a bang.
Phryne's sister is making her presence known ,and the very cool clam and collected Mr Lin Chung ,is playing peace maker between his family and the whoo's ,personally I could have lived with out this ,the slow pace of the elderly Chinese foke was starting to erk me.I never mind the appearance of the lovely Mr Lin but I just found myself wishing the tale would get back to our heroin .Stephine Daniels is never disappointing but having said this if this your first book in the sires your thinking of buying I would start closer to the beginning.
I really enjoyed this one it had a different flavor some how it wasn't something I could put my finger on ,maybe it was because this particular tale is set in Sydney instead of Melbourne .We find our beautiful flapper helping out two chums and a missing Egyptian artifact ,a tad far fetched but that didn't bother me ,Ancient Egyptian curses and the gentleman's game of cricket some how are seamlessly merged into a fantastic story.
Only Kerry could pull that off.
I personally think that a persons sex should not dictate what they are capable of achieving, but I must admit I was surprised this was written by a man .I loved this story at first I was all most put of by it's pace It was like listing to a child trying to tell a joke ,but once it settled down and got comfortable with it's self it flowed nicely .I enjoyed the two heroins of the piece a great deal ,I also enjoyed the fact that there relationship was not the focus of the tale ,Love ,mystery far of lands and sword fighting who could ask for anything more.
I've got a very big bone to pick with Mrs Greenwood ,she has made me into a insomniac I'm not sleeping because I'm to busy listing to the amazing Stephanie Daniel ,I dusted this one of in three nights I couldn't get enough ,Miss Fishes sorted past and present are colliding ,but nothing flaps our beautiful flapper ,murder , ex lovers and her relations with the butlers strained to breaking point ,wont stop Miss Fisher from doing what she dose best.
I really don't have any right to give this a review because I couldn't get past the first couple of chapters I really tried but I'm not shore if its the narrator telling a bad story or a bad story tripping up a narrator to be honest there both clunky and boring ,I wont say go nuts but maybe your threshold is better than mine,I say listen to the sample and make up your own mind.
There are some good and steamy tails here ,if corsets and machines that buzz for all the right reasons is your thing than this collection should not disappoint.
