I think I could listen to Clarissa's voice - forever. These stories have moved me deeply and I feel like a changed person after having listened to them. Beautiful, sensual, tragic - it's all here. What a spiritual feast and delight.
Yes - and I have - several times. This one feels a little more "raw" than Adya's other books. I really connected with this one.
I love all his books, but this one was particularly good.
No.....it's a little too "meaty".
Just really loved this one. Adya is so approachable - so human. He feels more like a friend who has been through the trenches and is passing along what he's learned - rather than some elevated guru.
John Lee's performance was riveting. It added so much to the book. He really brought the characters to life. The book itself was wonderful. Just a good ol' fashioned good vs. evil story. You will get sucked in, no doubt - even if you're a cynical person like me. It's a grand achievement - by the writer Dumas and the narrator. Bravo!
This book, from the story to the narration, was pure perfection. I have read hundreds of books and seen thousands of films in my life, yet none came close to the the horrors of war depicted in this book. No wonder the Nazi's wanted the author's head! This book gave me a whole new perspective on WWI that I never had before. I cannot recommend enough. Should be required reading for all the peoples of earth.
So many people have written great reviews of this book. I just wanted to say that I, too, loved it. What a sweet, beautiful story.
This was an amazing book. I listened to it every spare minute. And the performance was simply outstanding. It was so good, in fact, I'm probably spoiled. Highly recommend this book. Love. Love. Love.
I have been a "spiritual seeker" for the past 30 years. Mostly, I have studied Eastern philosophy. Not so much Western thinking. In fact, I sort of "poo-poo'd" Western thought because "striving", "achieving", etc., all seemed like an anathema to my Eastern way of thinking. Psychology and science just all felt sort of "meh" to me.
However, something has been missing for me and I have found myself increasingly anxious and agitated with "just being in the moment". In reading this wonderful book, I found out WHY. I now feel so much more balanced and feel like I am finally sailing out of the doldrums of my mind.
This book has given me a greater understanding of my own mind and the mind of my fellow human beings. Strangely, understanding Western thinking has made me a more compassionate person. Understanding some of our basic drives and even (gasp) "brain function" has made me more open and kind. I always thought it would be Eastern thought that would accomplish this. However, it was a deeper understanding of SCIENCE which tempered me (a surprise!) But I do want to point out that this book, by no means, just concentrates on Western thought. It's just that FOR ME, there was a lot of missing information. I had a lot of "holy sh**!" moments while listening.
This book has changed my life and the way I view the world. Not only that, but I feel like I've grown up a little. And wised up a LOT.
Great book. Great reading of the book. Highly recommend.
