Star Wars: Heir to the Empire: Behind the Scenes is a special recording that features new commentary by author Timothy Zahn and editor Betsy Mitchell, written for the 20th anniversary edition of Heir to the Empire, read by Zahn and Mitchell. Included here is audio from that new unabridged recording to enhance their comments.

Would you try another book from Timothy Zahn and Betsy Mitchell (editor) and/or Timothy Zahn and Betsy Mitchell ?

I might - since I didn't really hear any of the book, it's hard to tell.

Has Free Excerpt: Star Wars: Heir to the Empire - Behind the Scenes turned you off from other books in this genre?

There is no genre. The "excerpt" is nothing but why the book was written.

What three words best describe Timothy Zahn and Betsy Mitchell ’s performance?

    Really couldn't say.

What character would you cut from Free Excerpt: Star Wars: Heir to the Empire - Behind the Scenes?

Everything befor the actual beginning of the story.

    Any additional comments?

    Waste of time.

Dante had been courting his victim in cyberspace for weeks before meeting her in person. A few sips of wine and a few hours later, she was dead. The murder weapon: a rare, usually undetectable date-rape drug with a street value of a quarter million dollars.

Would you try another book from J. D. Robb and/or Susan Ericksen?

I LOVE JD Robb, and I LOVE how Susan Erickson reads In Death. EXCEPT for this book. I have several In Death books and they are all great!

Who was your favorite character and why?

This book introduces the relationship between Charles and Louise. I love both of them.

Would you be willing to try another one of Susan Ericksen’s performances?

Definitely. I already have several - she IS the voice of In Death. This book is the exception. It's almost like a practice read-through that was cut by mistake. Or maybe it was the very first book she recorded, before she worked out the right voices?

What would have made this romance irresistible?

If it had been read with the right voices, inflections, and timing.

    Any additional comments?

Head Coroner Morris has Dickie Barenski's voice. How much more wrong can it be?

Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Would you try another book from John Scalzi and/or Wil Wheaton?

I might try another book from each, but not together. I'll need to compare to see whose talent brought this story down.

What did you like best about this story?

I really liked the alternate reality theory. The characters were entertaining and have good interaction.

Did Wil Wheaton do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Sorry, no. There was no difference between character voices, other that an occasional accent which came and went and traveled from character to character.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No, not at theater prices. Definitely a "wait for the DVD".

    Any additional comments?

Not sure if it was Wheatons narration or Scalzis writing, but single sentence statements followed by "(character name) said" get kind of annoying after the first thousand times. But on the plus side, since the characters all sound the same, it does help keep track of who is speaking.
