  • The Thorn Birds

    • UNABRIDGED (22 hrs and 23 mins)
    • By Colleen McCullough
    • Narrated By Mary Woods
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Thorn Birds is a robust, romantic saga of a singular family, the Clearys. It begins in the early part of the 20th century, when Paddy Cleary moves his wife, Fiona, and their 7 children to Drogheda, the vast Australian sheep station owned by his autocratic and childless older sister. It ends more than half a century later, when the only survivor of the third generation, the brilliant actress Justine O'Neill, embarks on a course of life and love halfway around the world from her roots.

    Anne says: "disappointing"

I read this book in print form many years ago and loved it. The awful Australian accents, mispronounciations of common words, and Father Ralph's nasal, plummy tones have made the audiobook an exercise in frustration.

  • Your Creative Soul: Expressing Your Authentic Voice

    • ORIGINAL (4 hrs and 32 mins)
    • By Caroline Myss, Sandra Joseph
    • Narrated By Caroline Myss, Sandra Joseph

Many of us wear a mask that covers not our faces but our souls, hiding the authenticity we yearn to express. But how do we remove these masks and step into our full creative power? On Your Creative Soul, Caroline Myss and Sandra Joseph, the author and actress best known for her role as Christine in Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera, investigate the profound relationship between our spirituality and our creative lives - and why it's essential for each of us to honor the impulses of the soul.

    tracy says: "Two different voices...disjointed"
"So tired of being told off!"
What disappointed you about Your Creative Soul?

Carolyn Myss is just relentlessly negative and angry. It's like there's some imaginary listener who has been too demanding or something - a section can start off very positively, and then the next thing there's her strident voice telling us what terrible people we are.

What could Caroline Myss and Sandra Joseph have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I would but a book by Sandra - she has some great things to say.

    Any additional comments?

I've bought several of Carolyn's books, and with this one I've finally learned my lesson. Never again.

  • Daughters of Fire

    • UNABRIDGED (25 hrs and 42 mins)
    • By Barbara Erskine
    • Narrated By Barbara Erskine

As the Romans invade Britannia, the princess of the great tribe of the Brigantes watches the enemies of her people come ever closer. In the present day, historian Viv Lloyd Rees has immersed herself in the legends surrounding the Celtic queen.

    Kathy says: "Too much work"

I hadn't read Barbara Erskine before, but chose this book because I'd listened to Davina Porter. It was a great choice - I've loved every moment. Davina is a wonderful reader!

  • Creating Your World the Way You Really Want it to Be

    • ORIGINAL (4 hrs and 46 mins)
    • By Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Deepak Chopra
    • Narrated By Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Deepak Chopra

In this truly inspirational audiobook, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer and Deepak Chopra, M.D., two of the most highly respected authors and teachers in the self-help/transformational field, tell you how you can create your world the way you really want it to be....

John says: "A waste of time and money"
    "not enough Chopra!"

This audio is promoted as a dialogue - It's not, though! Wayne Dwyer monopolises the content, is repetitive and self-promoting. And the prologue is long, boring, AND repeated in the content. When Deepak does get to speak, Wayne recaptures centre stage very quickly. In future I will only purchase the books the Deepak Chopra authors alone. He has a great deal more to offer.
This book has really irritated me, but I gave it 2 stars because some of the content is very thought provoking.
