  • Beyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 43 mins)
    • By His Holiness the Dalai Lama
    • Narrated By Martin Sheen
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Dalai Lama, at his most compassionate and outspoken, here elaborates and deepens his vision for the nonreligious way. Transcending the mere "religion wars", he outlines a system of secular ethics that gives tolerant respect to religion, those that ground ethics in a belief in God and an afterlife, and those that understand good actions as leading to better states of existence in future lives. And yet, with the highest level of spiritual and intellectual authority, the Dalai Lama makes a claim for what he calls a third way.

    "A Call to Action"
Would you listen to Beyond Religion again? Why?

Yes, and I am sure I will listen to it and read it again and again. The message is simple, strong and sensible. Yet - it is something that each human must hear often as a reminder.

What did you like best about this story?

The message is inclusive and challenges me to live ethically as much as possible.

Have you listened to any of Martin Sheen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No - this is my first Martin Sheen narrative performance.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved throughout the book.

    Any additional comments?

Having heard the Dalai Lama speak in person - it is a little strange to hear his words coming our of Martin Sheen's mouth! :)

    "Where is the book?"
Would you try another book from Harper Lee and/or the narrators?

I would love to buy the actual audiobook by Harper Lee with almost any narrator. Unfortunately the novel itself is not available through Audible.

What was most disappointing about Harper Lee’s story?

It was a speech about the novel

What three words best describe the narrators’s performance?

Live, celebratory, and a nice tribute.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It had many redeeming qualities as a tribute to Harper Lee and the book, but it is important to read the novel itself before listening to a tribute to its author.

    Any additional comments?

    Had the actual audiobook of
