This book is wonderful, funny, irreverent and totally accurate for the mind of just about any type of crafter! It's about knitters, but any crafter can relate to exactly what she describes in knitters actions and collections. Only 4.5 hrs, but one of the best little books I've listened to. Read by the author & at first a little plain listening, but the cadence of her Canadian accent kicks in and full enjoyment begins. (No Eh?'s either!)

Another fun Agatha Raisin adventure with a few extras. She gets herself into several new and different troubles along with both Roy and Tony having their own adventures this time, too, and James returns!

Mrs Raisin provides the usual brain break and getaway time. This one starting off in her getting a grossly unfair traffic ticket for taking her hands off the wheel while stopped in traffic to blow her nose, then very publicly announcing she would kill the Copper who gave it. When he's murdered in a macabre way within a short time of her threat, she is, of course, suspected along with almost everyone this guy unfairly ticketed. Along the way, it's found he has a lot more money than a simple policeman should have, Tony and Roy get into their own misadventures & it all provides a rolicking good adventure for the listener!

The narrator is not up to Davina Porter's quality and is sorely missed. It took away a bit from my pleasure, but still good enough. I guess Davina's reading has spoiled me to other narrators for these books...

Where does Garden Spells rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

It's among the top of the 'Mind Candy' group! It's a wonderful, quirkey, satisfying getaway from the mundane.

What other book might you compare Garden Spells to and why?

Her other book "The Sugar Queen". Both are whimsical, lovely stories of finding oneself through trying circumstances, overcoming the odds families bring to our lives and triumphing in the end.

Which character ??? as performed by Susan Ericksen ??? was your favorite?

Well, she didn't perform it exactly, but the tree... Really, the tree brings in the story! However, of the performed characters, I think Sydney because she ran away from what she was and had to come home to find herself.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Extreme... not really, but definite giggling, inner happiness and overall good feelings when finished. Along with a few sighs when Claire - well don't want to give anything away!

Any additional comments?

Well worth listening to, especially if you're stressed & just want to get away for awhile to give your mind a rest from reality or simply just want to fully relax with the story.

Also gives thoughtful insights into handling situations that might just come in handy - things that are magical, but only because they can be achieved with a little thought and kindness in everyday life.

Love all the Agatha Raisin series. Donada Peters is an excellent narrator bringing life to each character in the book.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I had read and enjoyed the book some time ago, along with all the Ellis Peters Cadfael stories, but the narrator did such a poor reading it ruined the story. With a different narrator, this could have been enjoyable.

How could the performance have been better?

Good story and good narration - very worth buying. Only gave 4 stars as there were a couple of places where the story stalled for me, but on the whole a very good listen. It's the 3rd story in the Ladies Murder Club series, but the 1st for me. Perhaps I should have started with the 1st for more of the characters backgrounds as I'm one who goes for more, however it is a standalone story and not necessary to read priors for the enjoyment of listening.

Cute little story and very typical! I forgot how short some of her stories are! It is age appropriate for young children, as all the B.P. stories are. Narrator also evokes a B.P. style very well.

What the prior reviewer may not have realized is that in England, then and now, the term "Pussie/ Pussy" is what cats are called, along with "Puss" and not at all a derogatory term. This term also used in Mother Goose nursery rhymes. If a possible problem, perhaps an explanation of this as the proper use of the term as used would be in order. However, it would seem more appropriate not to make anything of it at all...

If you like historical, conspiracy murder mysteries, this will grab you at the beginning and carry you through to the end. It starts in the present at an archaeological dig, then starts going back & forth in time as the story unravels. Very interesting historical facts with some explanation of the story's conspiracy roots and the how & why of it's continuing into the present add greatly to the story. It's somewhat on the level of the Knight's Templar stories, but not the same line. Good reader, good story. Enjoy!

The book follows the story of a girl who's always been 'just OK' academically, as opposed to her father's star, the 16 yr old brother who's excelled since kindergarten, where she always felt she'd been a disappointment to him and her mother. All of a sudden, at 12, she's coming into a superiority in spelling that's magical to her and she's not sure how to handle it with her family. As she progresses, changes to her and each person in the family begin. Some are subtle, some stark and with some surprising twists and turns. Is it the timing of her coming out or would they have happened anyway... Some are expected, but not quite in the way they're presented. Some are startling. Thought provoking and different. The author narrates and is OK, but I do wonder how much the presentation might change with a different reader.
