Maya is hiding in plain sight in London. The 26-year-old has abandoned the dangerous obligations pressed upon her by her father and chosen instead to live a normal life. But Maya comes from a long line of people who call themselves Harlequins, a fierce group of warriors willing to sacrifice their lives to protect a select few known as Travelers.

    "Told friends and family"

I started reading a chapter in the bookstore and was immediately engrossed. But before buying I checked Audible and found that it was a choice.
I'm 3/4 through this story. Normally I only listen to the books when driving. This one I'm listening to as I work on the computer and do many normal tasks.

    Just can't put it down.
    The story has many elements.

1.Thought provoking. The premise of big brother monitoring us and taking away our freedoms. It is close enough to reality that one can "suspend belief" as she/he listens.
    2. The Narrator is perfect for the book instead of trying to change the voice to emulate a woman or different characters. For the most part he keeps his same pace and voice with some minor inflections. I liked this it was more like reading the book than listening to a play.
3.A great take on spirituality and mysticism. Nothing new just extracts from major religions.
5.Finally there is lots of action and a intricate plot.

I haven't written a review this positive since I listened to the story of Pi. This is a book I feel like saying to every friend I meet, have you read the traveler. Awsome you have to pick it up.

  • Mage's Blood: The Moontide Quartet, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (26 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By David Hair
    • Narrated By Nick Podehl
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Most of the time the Moontide Bridge lies deep below the sea, but every 12 years the tides sink and the bridge is revealed, its gates open for trade. The Magi are hell-bent on ruling this new world, and for the last two Moontides they have led armies across the bridge on "crusades of conquest". Now, the third Moontide is almost here, and this time the people of the East are ready for a fight... but it is three seemingly ordinary people that will decide the fate of the world.

Grant says: "Hard to get into but then good"
"Best Fantasy Series of the Year"
If you could sum up Mage's Blood in three words, what would they be?

    Engaging, Engaging, Engaging

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mage's Blood?

I don't want to make any spoilers, this book has a ton of memorable moments.

I really emphasized with the characters and the situations they were put into.

Which character – as performed by Nick Podehl – was your favorite?

Aleron is my favorite. At the very beginning I was put off by the different Character Story lines. Then they were all brought together and it just gelled. The book starts a little slow but just keeps getting better and better.
Also the 2nd book is out and amazingly enough it is just as good as the first. So many times an authors 2nd book just isn't as good. But David Hair knows how to keep it going.

My pet peeve is Game of Thrones Series. 3 good books and then the guy decided to keep the series going forever and write 1000s of pages and nothing happens!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A complex story like this just won't make it to the theaters.

    Any additional comments?

Great Narration, Great Story. Takes a little while to get into it but then you'll be hooked.!
This is less simple then many of the Epic Fantasy Series and I enjoyed the change.

  • Eye of the Moonrat: The Bowl of Souls, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 23 mins)
    • By Trevor H. Cooley
    • Narrated By James Foster

Justan was raised on the outskirts of the Dremaldrian Battle Academy. He watched his father ascend the ranks within the academy to become one of the most respected warriors in the kingdom. The only thing he has ever wanted is to become an academy student and follow the path of his father. Unfortunately, only the best can enter the academy and Justan is a horrible fighter. Everyone tells him that he is more suited to scholarly work than swordplay.

Mark says: "More than i expected"
    "Epic Fantasy at It's Best"
If you could sum up Eye of the Moonrat in three words, what would they be?

    Engaging, Inventive, Action Packed

What did you like best about this story?

It was very fast moving and in stages introduced a world of magic No Spoilers but so many books the character goes from Zero to Hero overnight. In this book he has to work for it.

What about James Foster’s performance did you like?

I felt he was very good at expressing emotions. He did a great job of engaging me.
Excellent differentiation of Voices. He's not one of those deadpan monotone type readers

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes I had a extreme reaction. I went to Kindle Unlimited and read the next 4. I was really upset that only the first book was out on Audible. I was like no I don't want to wait to read the next book.
Later I found that the rest of the series is in print..

    Any additional comments?

This is light Epic Fiction, Elements of Humor. The good guys are good and the Bad Guys are really ugly. It throws loops along the way and isn't 100% predictable.

Excellent Book, Excellent Narration this is a winner all the way.
    Hope you enjoy.

I'm an avid Fantasy Reader and I consider this to be a top notch series.

"After 30 Years this Book Still Rocks!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you listen to one AudioBook this year, this is it. The story, the narration, the plot and the characters are so excellent.

What did you like best about this story?

The intricacies of the plot and the machinations.

Which character – as performed by John Lee – was your favorite?

John Lee is a perfect narrator, he just draws me into the story. I'm only at the beginning but every character is flawless.

  • Flashman: Flashman, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 29 mins)
    • By George MacDonald Fraser
    • Narrated By David Case
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The story of what happened to Flashman, the caddish bully of Tom Brown's Schooldays, after he was expelled in drunken disgrace from Rugby school in the late 1830s. This is the first of George Macdonald Fraser's hilarious satires starring Harry Paget Flashman.

    ScubaTurtle says: "Flashmaniacs Rejoice!!!"
"Cads, rogues, and a Little History-"
What did you love best about Flashman?

I'm a historical history buff and I enjoy taking my history with a spoonful of sugar.

I love the fast moving story line and Flashman, he just tickles me.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Flashy of course. Sometimes you get tired of the traditional hero and are in the mood for a Cowardly Rogue.

What about David Case’s performance did you like?

Narrator was perfect, he just seemed to catch the irony of Flashman in his intonations. I'm American but I found his English Accent understandable and just downright enjoyable

    Any additional comments?

    Try the first book.

  • Lion of the Sun: Warrior of Rome, Book 3

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 1 min)
    • By Harry Sidebottom
    • Narrated By Stefan Rudnicki

Betrayed by his most trusted adviser, Roman Emperor Valerian has been captured by the Sassanid barbarians. The shame of the vanquished beats down mercilessly like the desert sun as the frail old emperor prostrates himself before Shapur, king of kings. Ballista looks on helplessly but vows under his breath to avenge those who have brought the empire to the brink of destruction with their treachery.

    Bonnie says: "War is UGLY"
    "I love this series"
Would you listen to Lion of the Sun again? Why?

Yes, eventually I'll listen to the whole series again. It's simply so good. So much action, great story, characters and since it's historical fiction you learn many things too.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lion of the Sun?

It's been months since I listened and I still remember the ambush.

If you could take any character from Lion of the Sun out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I'd take Ballista out get roaring drunk act obnoxious and let him kick the xxx out of anyone who gave us lip

    Any additional comments?

Narrator is strong. Listen to a segment first. Either you'll really like it or hate it.
I just bought the 4th book because I don't have the patience to wait for it to come out on Audible.

  • A Dance with Dragons: A Song of Ice and Fire: Book 5

    • UNABRIDGED (49 hrs)
    • By George R. R. Martin
    • Narrated By Roy Dotrice
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Dubbed the American Tolkien by Time magazine, George R. R. Martin has earned international acclaim for his monumental cycle of epic fantasy. Now the number-one New York Times best-selling author delivers the fifth book in his spellbinding landmark series - as both familiar faces and surprising new forces vie for a foothold in a fragmented empire.

Dianne Houston says: "OH NO ROY!!!! NOT DENARIS!!!!!!!"
"This series will be done in the year 3010"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The Author has decided to cash in on his success and keep the story so slow moving that he'll be putting out books in the year 3010. I slid him a break on his last book but this one is even slower.

What do you think your next listen will be?

My next listen will be from an Author who has a story that moves.

What about Roy Dotrice???s performance did you like?

I thought the performance was fine.

You didn???t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Yes I can imagine the Author banking his millions and wish I was him

    Any additional comments?

I loved the first books, but this guy has become worse than Stephen King. He needs an editor. And he needs to get the story moving again.

This is the last Martin book I'll ever read.

  • Shadow Prowler

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By Alexey Pehov
    • Narrated By MacLeod Andrews
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

An army is gathering; thousands of giants, ogres, and other creatures are joining forces from all across the Desolate Lands, united, for the first time in history, under one, black banner. By the spring, or perhaps sooner, the Nameless One and his forces will be at the walls of the great city of Avendoom.

francisco says: "New twist on the old "quest" genre."
    "Great Original Story"
What made the experience of listening to Shadow Prowler the most enjoyable?

You never know exactly what is going to happen. Lot's of surprises. The characters are really engrossing. Not so much the developement of Haralds character but his interaction with the other charactersThere is a certain sarcasm and humor about how Harald sees the world. The book is kind of gritty, Harald is out for Harald and not to save the world and that's one of the facets of the book that I like.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shadow Prowler?

I really got a kick out of the Kings Jester.

What does MacLeod Andrews bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

While I'm not into British Accents, his accent was not so extreme that it was hard to understand. He really acted out the parts well and his voices were very good.I would suggest that you listen to an Excerpt if you are adverse to UK English.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was really entertained. I couldn't wait to pick it back up again after dropping it. And certain parts were so amusing that I reversed and played them again.

    Any additional comments?

While I never heard of this Author, and you probably haven't either, don't let that dissuade you from buying this book. It ranks among the best fantasy books I've read.. So If you are into stereotypical idealistic hero type, save the world, save the maiden, smite evil, novel stay away. Harald is a rogue trying to survive and get rich. In that order.

  • Kill All the Lawyers

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By Paul Levine
    • Narrated By William Dufris

They are the legal world's oddest couple: a shorts-and-sandals beach bum and a Coral Gables blue blood. The only thing keeping them together is that they're on the same side.

Janels says: "Should be funny--isn't !"
    "The author cracks me up"

The Author cracks me up. This is light listening and it's just plain funny. The story is great with lots of twists and turns.
The Narrator was just perfect for the Book.

    Two Thumbs up from Tomzgreat

  • Vampire$

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 52 mins)
    • By John Steakley
    • Narrated By Tom Weiner

Suppose there really were vampires. Dark, stalking, destroying. They’d have to be killed, wouldn’t they? Of course they would. But what kind of fools would try to make a living at it? In best-selling author John Steakley's vampire classic, one tightly knit band of brothers devotes itself to hunting down the monsters that infest the modern world—for a price.

Andrew Pollack says: "Great to see Steakley back - and in good form"
    "Fast Moving Lots of Action"

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. It's not your gooey romance style Vamp book. Instead it's gritty, grisly and action packed.

  • Conspirata: A Novel of Ancient Rome

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 37 mins)
    • By Robert Harris
    • Narrated By Simon Jones
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

On the eve of Marcus Cicero's inauguration as consul of Rome, the grisly death of a boy sends ripples of fear through a city already wracked by civil unrest, crime, and debauchery of every kind. Felled by a hammer, his throat slit and his organs removed, the young slave appears to have been offered as a human sacrifice, forbidden as an abomination in the Roman Republic. For Cicero, the ill forebodings of this hideous murder only increase his frustrations and the dangers he already faces as Rome's leader.

    David says: "Enjoyable Read"
"Harris Keeps getting better and better!"

His other books are very good. This one is the best yet. Historical Fiction at it's finest. Excellent Plot, Narration, Character Development.

I really enjoyed this Audio Book
