"Daughter loves it"
I purchased this for my daughter, but ended up hearing it several times in pieces :) I can't say enough about Laura Linney's narration--she is wonderful!
"Great Family Read!"
I listened to Dark Life with my kids--21, 18, 15 on a car trip. We were captivated! Ms. Falls creates a believable undersea world in a future where global warming has greatly reduced the livable land on Earth. Her characters are bright, witty and adventurous and we thoroughly enjoyed our peek into their lives. Look for the sequel, Riptide, also a great read! Narrator Keith Nobbs voice the parts perfectly. Dark Life has been optioned for a movie, and author Kat Falls plans five books total in this engaging series. Highly recommended!
"Native American mysticism meets Parapsychology"
Hecht's second Cree Black thriller is as good as the first. Great paranormal series!
"Evocative, moody thriller"
Cree Black is haunted by her past and a paranormal experience which has lead her into her current job as a "paranormal investigator." Hecht's characters are well formed, and brought to life perfectly by narrator Anna Fields (who sadly died shortly after voicing Hecht's third Cree Black thriller.) I could not wait to join Cree in her further investigations. I highly recommend the series!
"Interesting plot, but where can it go?"
I purchased this after reading the publisher's blurb, hoping my older kids(17, 20)might enjoy it also. After listening, I do not plan to recommend the book to them. There is a particularly ugly rape scene at the beginning, and the "bad guy" characters are just nasty. Foul language is used throughout the book. Maybe the author was going for length--cutting out just the F word in all its variations would practically cut the novel in half. Plotwise,I was reminded a little of a modern day Lord of the Flies, with profanity. (Lots of it.) The human race (with a very few exceptions) and particularly Christians, do not fare well in this book. The ending seems contrived and flat.
