I did not read a review of this book because I had seen the John Wayne movie and I knew it was a good story. Five minutes into listening to this book I had to stop and read the reviews to see if anyone else had noticed the breathing, swallowing, and pausing of the narrator. I found it very distracting. I see others have criticized her ability to do male voices. I liked the narrators read for Mattie but her male characters voices are very similar to each other and it seemed as though sometimes she forgot who she was voicing because it would change from sentence to sentence. I am in the middle of the book and am enjoying it, but i think it would be better with a different narrator or or maybe a different recording setup.
Sort of. I usually listen while driving in traffic. I constantly found myself drifting away from the story. Constant introduction of new characters would lose me .
Sometimes I got so tired I had to turn it off.
No. I enjoy most of Clancy's books and most books in this genre
I liked everything about his performance, but I think he had a tough book to carry.
Still reading so can't say
I have read almost all of Clancy's early stuff but drifted away when he started with the co-authors. Started reading all of the Vince Flynn "Mitch Rapp" series. The most recent Vince Flynn "The Last Man" was a bit tired and same old same old. I picked up "Threat Vector" by Clancy and thought it was fantastic, far above the Vince Flynn stuff. I decided to go back to the beginning of the series, thus "Dead of Alive". I find it slow and uninspiring. Characters are a bit one dimensional.... Democrats are all far left idiots, conservatives are all level headed trustworthy sorts. The President is such an idiot that he is beyond believable. One of the things I have enjoyed about Clancy compared to Vince Flynn and others is that he does not see it all politics as black and white. It is more complicated than that and he has been able to show the nuances of party politics, governments, religion, good vs evil etc... I hope for better on the next one.
